That's funny on the surface but the bottom line is that Checo just wanted to know how Max's tires were holding out, it's more info for him for the coming races.
The onboard query "Is Max struggling ?" by Perez + "Just managing in Sector 1" reply was made during lap 50. At that time Verstappen was leading Perez with almost 2s. Verstappen had already changed his hard tires for medium tires in lap 45 and overtaken Perez in lap 48. Probably Perez was wondering why the gap was still less than 2s despite new fresh rubber.

Verstappen clocked several times a Fastest Lap, but the fastest was the one made during the penultimate lap of the race (the only driver diving under 1m30s during the race).

At the finish line the gap between Verstappen and Perez was 5.384s.

That's right, Max was fettling his fresh meds keeping a few seconds above Checo to still have enough 'wellie' in his tires to get that FL at the end on near empty fuel in case someone like Russell tried to get it, like he did last outing.

So after 10 laps, Checo managed only to get a 1.4sec lead on ALO, depite having clean air and a superior car. (and SAI following within 1sec of ALO).
All on the same tyres.

Max was by then already 4th

You'd almost think Checo was holding everyone up for Max to cut faster through the field

Jackie responds after Roger Fedderer/Martin Brundle incident...

Triple World Champion Stewart, 83, ducked under a security line prior to the driver introductions by LL Cool J and Will.I.Am in a bid to get 20-time Grand Slam champion Federer to come and speak with Brundle as part of his grid walk ahead of the race.

He "had not had to sneak past security like that for a long time"

This is an incident now? Lol gotta love the media.

It was super cringey to watch but was nothing out of the ordinary as far as Brundle's grid walks go.

This is what I don't get apart from Checo simply conserving the tyres and hoping for the best with the one stop. It must have been dawning on him then that his strat was probably not the best one as the hards can always be pushed more with a heavier fuelled car and good mediums later on in a lighter fuelled car will always out-pace the hards being in the window.

It'll need much more than that to come close to embarrass triple champ Stewart and I'll wager he was having a good laugh about it all the time being a 'rogue'.

Some fans don't quite realise that injuries can happen even with the HANS neck protection in crashes with a wall and Charlies' two accidents were caused by car bouncing on turns which caught him out on the one particular turn and because of this he was easy prey for LEW who took 6th from him at the end as Chas's neck pain increased.
The 23 seems worse than ever with these upgrades like turbos when the chassis seems to have been largely ignored and Fred has added that he's turning a blind eye to the offs in their quest to improve the car. Meanwhile steady eddie Carlos is keeping the red buckaroo on track to at least get decent points and I'm not holding my breath for that big of an improvement at Imola, the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari.
Late with the link..

I was wondering. Is America really embracing F1 or is it just FIA Propaganda?

After all these years being an irrelevant sport in the US, it's hard to imagine that a Netflix series changed all that.

Thoughts from our US forum members?

I've always had the belief you can't make someone a motorsport fan. The sport's appeal is narrow and its nuances aren't easily grasped or appreciated. I think because many want an experience that mirrors watching a suspenseful movie there's disappointment because motorsport outcomes can't be scripted (even though we know it's been tried). As a result, keeping the fringe fan engaged just isn't going to happen. Over the years of taking someone new to a F1 race, I've seen that "is that all there is" look on there face. Stefano Domenicali has been charged by Liberty to make Formula 1 more than it is...I see it as an impossible task.

I think overall, it has definitely increased viewership in the US. I never followed or watched F1 prior to DTS. I had a few friends that were fans prior, but 4 or 5 of us have started following since.

My wife and I have been watching F1 since 2002. We attended the inaugural USGP in Austin, Texas. Aside from Sunday, the track was empty the entire weekend. The majority of the spectators were non-US citizens. We had general admission tickets, but during qualifying, we were given grandstand seats so that track attendance would look more full during the television coverage. Such was the case for several years after that first race.

Contrast that with the 2022 USGP. The general admission seating areas were all full to capacity during the race, and the track was very busy during qualifying. The Friday practice sessions were relatively quiet. Getting a spot on the grass at Turn 1 for the race was insane. We had to sprint from the venue entrance gate to claim a spot at Turn 1, and we spent the entire day defending our spot from rude people arriving 30 min before the race expecting to cram in next to us. It was crazy.

I don't know....
If I look at how many people now watch F1 in the Netherlands compared to before VER entered F1....there's a big difference.
But there also might be a fine line between being a motorsport fan and a driver fan.

I think that's probably the same fine line between carfans and people who started watching Top Gear when it became really popular. I stopped watching that around that time (like around '05 or '06)

Serious question for anybody who attended (or has gone to any F1 race)

Does it actually live up to the hype in real life? Once the allure of DTS died down, I realized the races are mostly boring to watch. I can't imagine being there in person and shelling out $1000+ in Florida humidity in ghetto Miami Gardens just to watch cars circle by every 5 minutes. A buddy of mine went and felt the whole thing was overrated.

Seems like you're paying more for the hype and spectacle of the event with Formula 1 rather than the sport itself, vs say attending a playoff NBA/NHL game which have WAY more action and entertainment value in my opinion.

Spa in 2022 was awesome.

And the Van Buuren concert after the race was actually kinda cool.

I think I paid about 500 euros each for Gold grandstand seats just before Eau Rouge.

Given that you can get from the East Coast to Paris, Frankfurt or Amsterdam for under $500 it would cost about the same as Miami.

Well, the other sports you mentioned, you can obviously see what’s going on along the entire surface that the sport is taking place. In Motorsports, you’ll really only see action at whichever turn you’re spectating at. So can’t really compare.

I personally enjoy IMSA, WEC and Indy racing events more than F1. Way more wheel to wheel action. F1, I’ll watch from home haha. Though I went to COTA/US GP last year and they put on a great event there. One of my all time favorite circuits.
