Very nice, I wish. No such luck with city life. I replaced my sliding glass patio doors with the ones that have the blinds inside the glass. I don't want to be living in a fish bowl.

Guess I'm too much of a City Guy. Or watched too many Horror movies.
No matter where I live, I would insist on Shutters or Curtains.

That's a lovely house. I love the spiral stairs.

If we end up getting another for the wifey's office (the living room chair is "mine") - we're going with palisander/white.

I'm struggling to find a good dining table/chair (or set). Where should I look? All other furniture is from Ikea, but ikea's slacking in their stock game. It doesn't need to be fancy at all, but looking online I can't find anything that's under $300...

A new set under $300 will almost certainly need to be RTA. Walmart and Target have some decent looking stuff but not sure if you can get a whole set for $300.

Another alternative is to shop consignment shops or even yard sales. People get rid of nice furniture for a lot of reasons and you might find a deal there.

If budget is more like $300/piece as opposed to $300 total, try finding a retailer of Amish furniture. They have a ton of choices at pretty reasonable prices for high quality furniture. Of course their styles are bound in a range of choices and you won’t find contemporary designs there. But they are good value for the quality of you find something you like. We bought some furniture from this place, including a great deal on a coffee table on close out, but these types of places are all over the place I think:

Ah I see - Ikea has a pretty solid looking set for $150, but it's out of stock. It's my first ever apartment (college apartments came with furniture) and therefore first time buying furniture of any kind. I hadn't thought of target/walmart, I'll definitely check them out! My seats don't fold, so I'd have to buy it online.

Thank you!

Something else you can look into is renting a truck or van. Home Depot in Canada rents vans for $20/hr. I'm sure HD in Chicago does as well. Do your shopping first so you know what you want and then go rent a van to pick it up.

World Market has some decent quality stuff, too - you can do pretty well if you hit one of their sales, but $300 all-in might be a stretch.

LOL - I am the same way! I have minimalist pull down's I can use if the sun is hitting the TV or something, but all my glass doors and windows (lots of them like yours) are always open day or night. I LOVE to see out, but like you - I am surrounded by lots and lots of empty space.

My GF lives in town and goes around each morning and each evening and opens/closes all the blinds in the house. Makes me claustrophobic..... LOL

Artwork change for our stairwell. Went from a painting to this large, metal bronze piece. It adds depth and dimensionalong with the modern yet rustic decor I enjoy. 🏡

I still can't find anything for my steps. It's driving me crazy. I love your dark wood with the iron spindles.

Thanks! I feel your pain. It is definitely a "impact piece" location. So you want something pleasing, yet conversation piece.
I would look into either Metal or with dimension.
Post up the area and I'll see if I can help...
