You are in MN correct? Bloomington or Minnetonka BMW?

Yes. I live in the west metro area. I bought my car at Motorwerks in Bloomington and that's where I go for service.

$795 for a piece of abs plastic. I thought the "Corvette tax" was bad for Corvette accessories.

Agreed. I thought it was perfect, not too big and really helps fill in the middle of the bumper. I like the fact it isn't CF too until I saw the price and spit out my coffee.

I think the F87 version looks better going all the way to the wheel openings. But at most it's a $100 piece.

I thought that at first too before getting it installed. I had Tom pull it out of the box to inspect it. The quality is far better than any CF piece on the market even for “plastic”. This thing is virtually indestructible and provides the perfect OEM+ solution I was looking for.

I understand the hesitation and don’t blame anyone for that. As said, I was in the same boat. But this thing will last 5 lifetimes of any CF splitter on the market, so money well spent. Not to mention added downforce that I’ll likely never use as she is a pavement princess.

I will add- this it TÜV tested. I wasn’t expecting it to be as thick and durable, yet lightweight for the quality as it was/is. Getting tons of compliments so far on it.

Price is high- it’s what it’s worth to the buyer I’d say.

I'm not disparaging anyone for spending whatever amount of $ they want on their vehicle. Just these vendors who are charging stupid $ for these items. This always happens when a new model comes out as they try to recoup their tooling costs & the early adopters are always screwed.

I'm not that impatient, so I'll wait until these pieces come down to the prices they really should be. Just like the cf pieces, cf is not very expensive anymore which is clearly evident when you can get the exact same pieces on sites like Aliexpress for a fraction of what the vendors are charging. And we all know they get them from the same Chinese warehouse.

Honestly I had looked at the KG Splitters lip as well. Both look fairly durable compared to the hollowed out CF and plastic pieces. I had concerns about fitment on KG so this looks like a good option. I am unsure I know how I feel about not going the full width. The price tag is a bit high, but I have to assume it will hold up better (especially when I hit autox cones) then most other options.

Lightweight lips are imported from Lightweight Germany (not China) and made from Grade 1 High-Density Polyethylene, materials (and inbound shipping from Germany) are not cheap in this size. You can probably cut costs and lower grade for cheaper, but it looks terrible in the end. Geighty7 was on the fence about the lip before coming in. Once unboxed, you could see their inspection tag (also in German) and protective film covering the lip. The mounting hardware holes are even countersunk for a flush fit. Once he saw it in person mocked up on the bumper, the decision was made. After it was installed on M2, you could easily mistake it for an OEM piece.

The Lightweight pieces are intended for track duty, and designed to take the abuse unlike the other flashy lips. They also don't chip, get nicked or yellow in sunlight. Your typical aliexpress vendor doesn't care about any of this, most are nothing other than trading companies that sell literally thousands of parts from other companies, there is no innovation, R&D, testing or any form of quality control - their goal is to copy, reproduce and sell as many widgets as possible, whether it's auto parts, ballet slippers or USB cables.

If you want to save some bucks - by all means take a gamble on one of the Maxton or aliexpress lips. They're so cheaply made - they actually melt in the sun. But you'll still see used Lightweights from previous generation //Ms in the classifieds still getting grabbed up quickly years later.

Nice. I love closer to Minnetonka BMW, but Bloomington is close to my office. Not sure which one I’ll use yet. I purchased from Minnetonka.

The shape reminds me of the oem lip for the f80s. This might have to be my next mod.

Got the new wheels on yesterday and took the car out last night. Idk what's up with my dragy. It just says "Low Stats", so no data. What I can say is the 60-130 feels way faster than I've ever felt and even in freezing cold last night, traction was much improved.

Looks nice, question as hard to tell from the pic - is there a little gap between the arch guard and the fender, or is it flush to the metal its entire length?

I had these on my F80 and the number of rocks that would manage to get stuck in there was epic (live in the northeast so we have a lot of sand/cinders on our roads spring into early summer). I'm considering doing this to mine because saving the hips in the back is worth it but my F80 had scratches along the inner fender down to metal when I took them off where the arch guards trapped the little rocks against the fender (might wrap my fender this time before installing). These are worth it though IMO, just be mindful of the rocks in there.

I live closer to the Minnetonka dealer too but Motorwerks was quicker at getting me an allocation.

Mine is black, black wheels, black interior, 6 speed.

What are the details on your car?

Nice! Looking good and I’m sure it will hook

Btw, I think I saw your car at Drifters a couple of weeks ago lunchtime? You might have seen me looking at it on my way out because you started the car to scare me away haha. I had my Bronco with me.

I looked at my x3mc and see the gap, but also have to say I didn't tighten them since installed 18 months ago.
On the G87, the gap is less, and maybe a little 3m tape would make it perfect.

These are the automotive passion, and the customer service has been amazing, when the first package was lost by USPS.
