I will, however, from this point forward refer to my car's unit of power as Llamathrust... "yea it did 373 Llamathrust at the wheels on the dyno."

"Llamathrust"

To be fair, TQ is ugga duggas.

So, I support this movement.
I propose the conversion be; (1.21 x RPM) / X ugga dugga = Llamathrust

I've always wanted to do this - but in my profession, getting caught will result in revocation my license - so I've never deemed it worth the risk.

Yeah, not worth it. I did it once to help a buddy out. Sold him a motorcycle for $4,000 and wrote up a bill of sale for $1,000. The DMV actually called me to inquire and I was forced to lie and say it had body damage and that's why the price was so low. They then followed up with him and demanded an inspection at the state trooper HQ. He was forced to take it there and then lie and say he had already replaced all the bad body panels. F that. So not worth it.

Yeah, well, what can I say. That was 20 years ago when I was in my mid 20s. Was a little dumber and a lot more reckless back then.

Most DMV, use the blue book retail value unless you have actual BOS from dealer. I know CA does this and if there is no blue book value they will assign one.

I did title transfer on 53 F100 with my dad, no blue book, and no Sale and so no Sale price, tried to enter $0 and system would not allow, had to enter $100. Sold a couple cars in PA and as soon as you said private sale they just looked up retail value. Did not matter what your little piece paper said.

Here in New Yorkistan, DMV offices are operated by each county's government. Counties derive the bulk of their tax revenue from sales tax. Unless the vehicle is a gift/sale between relatives, they have every incentive in the world to make you pay sales tax on the book value.....

The bulk of our property tax goes to the town/village/city, and they are responsible for collecting it. Sales tax goes to the county, along with a small share of the property tax (about 21% on my latest bill). Income tax goes to the state. School tax (out of control) goes to the local district.

Our property taxes are only on real property, which they define as land and buildings. No crazy annual "personal" property taxes on cars and stuff, like some other states do.....
