2022 BMW 230i / M240i (G42): Wallpapers, Specifications, Info, Pictures, Videos
Looks pretty good. Got the F87 chunky hips, which makes me wonder if G87 will be evolutionary wider like the g series m4 or serious chonka chonk like the m3.
Either way the new designs you have to really see in person. If you stare at the pics too long you pull out every flaw, and it really doesn't stand up when you are standing in front of them. My M2C mustache looks odd and overly pronounced in PR photos, but fits in person. Saw the G82 grills at the dealer the other day and they really aren't that bad. They fit the overall look. The headlights are wider than my whole arm length which when you see in person blends well with the grill. Headlights are making a nod to the 2002 which has a bit of a bewildered look to the front, and this takes on a bit of that. So you're a fan of the angrier e30 or 635CSi, maybe not your cup of tea. Oh and awkward taillights are as much of BMW's DNA as an inline 6. Good looking taillights are the exception, not the rule. Where have you been? |

My issue with this car is the triangle lower grille. I don't get it. They reached a bit too far for something and missed. Side profile is amazing. And... a power dome? On a non M car?? The M2 is going to look real nice.

The rear fender reminds me of the R34 Skyline a bit...

Super ugly IMO. All the newer BMW designs IMO are ugly.
The only new BMW I like is the 3 series, 5 Series, 8 Series, and X5. The rest just look ugly. Imo the E90s were the last generation of "True" BMW designs. After the E90s, BMW just started to fall. |

Oh my goodness, this is absolutely foul. Looks like a momma bird regurgitated a radioactive earthworm. Reminds me of the 3 series compact in terms of being an absolute design fail, can't decide which is worse:

Very aggressive design on the M240i. I could moan about further dilution of M-specific details (mirror caps, power bulge) but really, why bother? (Full disclosure: when I bought my first BMW in 1999, a E39 528i 5-speed MT with the sport package, I loved the M badge on the steering wheel and the MT knob!). I'm sure the G87 will be suitably distinct.
So, I'll reserve my critique to one item...and you know what this is (insert "broken record" or "soap box" emoji) - no MT option in the smallest new BMW. I appreciate the G87 M2 will have this option, but seriously? I was disappointed when the G20 3 series didn't offer a MT, but as it is the size of my M5 (which is a MT!), I thought there might be hope for the new 2 series. I understand the uptake would be low, and I fully admit to not understanding the financial implications for BMW. I will say the ONLY reason I bought my that 1999 E39 528i was that it was the ONLY appropriately sized car that suited our needs (3 kids) with a MT. As a result, I have bought numerous BMWs and remain loyal to this day. (Before the purchase, my wife and I took a delayed honeymoon in Europe and rented a manual Audi A6, which I loved. I would have bought that instead, but soon found out this was not an option in the US.) Okay, I'll just go to bed now. /Rant

So after watching this I see the need for the power dome. Look at how high the engine sits!

What I find surprising is that both petrol engines aren't mild hybrid - is that because it is built in Mexico and they don't have the engines there?
I thought the B58 went mild hybrid exclusively by now and the B48 MHEV is just around the door. The EU spec 220d will be MHEV though. |

I own an X5 and it is a very handsome SUV. It also drives great! I agree with your opinion.

Wow. The front and rear look totally fugly. The front looks like a person with small eyes that really far apart with a big nose and mouth. The rear is also having the same design language. Why the heck the rear lights are so far apart.
I thought the G80/82 is a miss and maybe the BMW marketing team is finding a way to makes the m3/m4 look great relatively speaking. They are definitely doing a great job on that. Wow, I was first having high hope to upgrade my F82 to the G80 but cannot get over the look. Switching gear to the new M2 but now it looks like can be an even bigger miss... cannot believe it. |

Oh nooooo....
Now they even manage to screw up the few cars left with no beaver grilles. Front end and rear end are horrible. Weight is ridiculous: an Alpina B3 touring (F31) with 4WD had a similar one. Current one is a gem compared to this.

Apologies if this has been said already but BMW have clearly taken inspiration from their 2002 Hommage car from 2016, albeit with this 2er having a few more awkward angles.
I am sure it will look better in the flesh though.

Looking at the spec sheet at the front page I was looking for dimensions and stuff.
And off course it's the same old song.... Cheers Robin |

So many new BMW designs I cant stand, this one I will try to like.
Headlights graphic looks nice. Tails may be less successful with inverted Ls making it sorta sad/droopy. Not sure. Interior looks like normal BMW affair, and pretty ok. Im sure quality of interior is still good. As summary, wanna see it in real life but I like that this car has actually a distinguishable face and happy that designers went that direction and dont produce clones in different sizes (aka Audi). |

It is everything I was expecting from a new BMW, an ugly to look at car. At least the 4 series looks good from the rear, this one looks bad from every angle. I can't even look at those taillights poking out of the body, wtf is that ?
Maybe the facelift will fix it as it did with the first gen F20. I'm not impressed with the interior either, even VW looks more modern. Korean cars do ambilight better than bmw also. And considering this was supposed to be a driver's car, why is it heavier, no manual and no handbrake ? I think if you want a new sports coupe in 2021+ the only real choice is Nissan 400Z.
