It doesn't matter where the plant, a brand new one at that, is located.

To me it purely seems based on a couple things, 1) Cost 2) Streamlining of parts 3) Expansion of M buyers outside of enthusiasts who don't know/care for a DCT. |

There's plenty of crap box cars with DCT standard that aren't marketed to enthusiasts either so I don't buy that argument. M3 has long strayed away from being a car for just enthusiasts. It's a car for who can afford one, same for the 911.
Plenty of deep pocketed individuals buy these cars just because they project a certain image and status. There's manual buy it or get the automatic. DCT was never a substitute for people who are hardcore enthusiasts anyway. Notice the manual is not being sacrificed.

They're moving further away
from what made the 1M so special and in turn what made the OG M2 also special—-more focused and LESS options not more. the more stuff they add, it means the further away it is getting from it's more simple and raw roots... Unfortunate IMO.

We can probably base it off of the G80 though right? Entry price should be about X% below it... likely similar to the F87 vs F80?

So we can hold out hope for a revitalized ED program and a German built G87!

1000% this. BMW doesn’t want to spend the money to develop a DCT full stop - they have made the decision that ZF8 is good enough for the market they want to sell to and it fits their margins very nicely. It has nothing to do with performance or enthusiasm.
