"At an expected 4.2 seconds from 0-100km/h, the version equipped with the eight-speed Steptronic automatic matches the acceleration time recorded for the M4 with a manual transmission. The provisional number for the do-it-yourself M2 is 4.5 seconds." |

Sigh! The irony here is that everybody wants BMW to build them a bespoke car and sell it for no more than say 60k. Otherwise, there will be outrage and sanctions which will result in the wife and kids all upgrading to imaginary 911 GT3 /GT4's.

I summarized what the M head of engineering said as, we could have spent all budget to keep it light weight as the F87 and not been able to spend anything on progress or we could make it a smaller M4 giving it all the M4 progress (beefy bracings, a lot more tire etc.) with the accompanying weight penalties. We chose the latter. It sounds like the G87 is an engine and suspension software upgrade away from performance wise being a full blown M4 for maybe $15-$20k less out of the door. And as for the engine, the G87 tune might even turn out to be the sweet spot for the S58 in terms of character. Further when the M4 get the MHEV upgrade to keep far enough ahead maybe the G87 get the full M4C tune… All that said, did we really need a cheaper M4 or something more different? I’m not sure myself. Manual is the only way to go, especially when you hear that terrible shift lag on the ZF8. Genuinely sucks that they spent zero time improving one of the crucial interaction points in a car.

Looks like the car is back at the Nurburgring, so expect more action shots. Though at this point what else do we need other than a camo-less car?

Very curious if they were able to improve things on the CSL, it's fine (even on track) but you can't hide the pedestrian transmission in some situations.

Was talking to Joe Achilles earlier today and he was telling me the new M2 is much faster but more numb compared to the last M2. He is going to go into more detail later, as he had just arrived at FOS and couldn't keep talking, but I'll report his further details on here once we talk more.

Not sure I buy what Joe is selling considering he swapped his RWD for an Xdrive M3. G87 should have the same steering rack and therefore should have better feedback since it's a much smaller/lighter car.

Joe is just an influencer - without YouTube no one would know of his existence - he's not a professional driver or technical expert, he's just a car lover with not so much experience and driving skills, let's wait for more competent, professional and unabashed opinions (e.g. Chris Harris).
However, we didn't need Joe Achilles to know that a heavier car with a longer wheelbase and wider tires is more numb, it's just physics. |

not sure if anyone has done this yet but one of my German friends translated the main points from the autobild video:
Here's what the guy said: 450bhp, extreme fun at 6-7k revs Has a lot of tech from m4, feels like one on the track Has torque vectoring Great handling at the limit (he drove Salzburg Ring) Incredible corner handling, good weight balance between front and back No carbon breaks Good sound, adjustable Available as 6 gear manual shift and automatic. He's a purist and prefers manual. The manual is very very precise and fast. Step from last m2 to this one is bigger than usual, even a good step up from m2 competition |
