I have no context here. Is this just vacation expenses, one month of living? What am I looking at here? Hawaii is no more expensive than here in Northern California tbh. There is a slight adjustment for an import tax but that gets squashed with the Kamaaina discount and if you eat local instead of the touristy areas. So to me, for my experiences...its not that expensive. Hell I looked last night and gas prices in Hawaii are cheaper than here in Cali. Which is just stupid, we make the shit like 60 miles away from here! LOL

I just don't see anything wrong if someone appreciates a well engineered machinery.

There are plenty of Hyundai and Kia driving millionaires that are miserable.

My aunts belong to that category.
Millions of dollars in the bank, piece of shit car, $800K house that's paid for but still stingy and miserable.

As a side note, I delivered pizza when I was 19 and I can tell the good tippers from the stingy ones just by seeing what they drive. Million dollar homes, 50 cent tip.

Honda -- lousy tipper
Corvette, Camaro, BMW, Porsche, Ferrari, & other exotics -- generous tipper
Mercedes -- average to poor tipper
GM, Ford, Chrysler -- average tipper

As has been said - I have a bank account with six zeroes - now all I need is another number that is not a zero to precede them.

I admit that when I looked at what we spend per month in terms of what's coming out of our bank, I was a little surprised and discouraged. Little eye opening there - might have to sit down and really see where all these expenses are from and what we can pare back. But I have one kid in daycare, one kid in private school (which does a family rate, so once my second is in school, at least I won't pay any more to send him and I can drop $13K or so in daycare costs per year, but that's still 2 years away), mortgage, two car payments, insurance, property taxes, food - man does it add up!

I'm in Fort Lauderdale, but could definitely get you in touch with some great agents up that way.

It's 85 & sunny again here today. Had a thunderstorm roll through last night, but that was it. Looks like we're going to have another beautiful weekend (last weekend was gorgeous & I was stuck inside doing house renos), just in time for a family grill out.

If you live in an area with good public schools and have a spouse that can stay at home, kids are not that expensive, IMO. I live in the Kansas City metro area with excellent public schools. My taxes are high, but it's still way cheaper than living in a cheaper county with poor schools. I estimate it costs us on average $10/day (total) to feed our 12 y/o and 16 y/o. So around $300/mo. Then figure another $300/mo total or so on clothes, activities like sports, and then the costs to cart them around to those activities. Having a family health care plan increases our monthly cost by $300. On average, our two kids are probably costing us $900-1,200/mo depending on birthdays, trips, etc. or around $11,000-14,000/yr for two kids in public school.

My wife has largely been a stay at home mom and we wouldn't have had it any other way. There are SO many advantages if you can make it work. We're both 46 y/o, our $300K home was paid off 7 years ago, my M235 and her 2020 4runner were bought with cash, and we plan to retire as multi-millionaires by 52ish. This was on a $100k-130k/yr income for the last 10 years and living within our means and investing wisely.

We consider ourselves rich because we can pretty much do what we want. Short of me liking somewhat expensive cars, we don't have expensive hobbies as most of our hobbies revolve around outdoor and sports activities with little to no cost. We like nice stuff, but we have no desire to own a huge house, I have no desire to own some super nice sports car, we don't have expensive toys, a second home, a boat, a gun collection, etc. To us, being rich is doing what you really want to do, not necessarily the things you have.

Very nicely stated.
And great job with everything you just described. You and your wife should teach a class on this.

I'm almost 52 and barely a hundred thousandaire.
I will still be paying for my house until I retire.

I can only survive a couple of years without an income. The retirement lottery plan hasn't panned out either.

I think this is an interesting question because as some people pointed out already, it like asking how big your pecker is. We all hold this info pretty close to the chest for some reason, yet I keep hearing that we should be talking about how much we make for our own sake-talking about compensation in the workplace paints a clearer picture of what the going rates are etc. Why not open up that discussion about net worth? I certainly would like to know if there is something I should be doing differently, am I putting my money in the right place? Am I making enough for my position etc...

My only debt is my house. Cars are either paid off or leased. Credit cards are paid off every month. I max out my IRA and I have a pension. I also have personal stock investments that I'm starting to focus more on. Check out a thread I started here:
Day traders: How much do you have in the stock market?

Do I have enough in the stock market? Maybe more of my car funds should go into investments? Certainly, I don't think such a simple pole can give an accurate answer to that since there are so many other things that factor into that answer, but I'd like to know so I can have some point of reference. I tend to think if I have to ask if I'm doing enough, it means I'm not doing enough. Any maybe knowing that dozens of of us have $200k in a brokerage account then maybe I need to think about:

a) I can afford that
b) If I am doing enough
or
c) If I can't do that, what else can I do to increase my wealth.
