I'm torn. I'd like to see Ferrari finish third but fourth would give us more 2022 development time. Think I'd rather take the pain now for better chances next year.

Of course Mercmafia hand 3 place penalty to Max for what was clearly more Ham's fault, nothing changes with this c/s outfit.

Big mistake. You are adding facts to an argument in this place. It won't be received very well.

There is a bail-out area to use, as HAM did earlier in the race, if you don't have racing room. Max made a deliberate choice to not use that space. Completely on Max.

I’m referencing after the pileup. Not the incident that Max received a grid penalty for.

3 place grid penalty is fair. Less than an 11 second pit stop.

Speaking of which did anyone catch Horner tell Max that McLaren didn't have a very fast pit stop (2.4 seconds) only for Max to be stationary 11+ seconds?

I think the penalty is deserved. HAM trying to reverse was dumb for sure but wasn't a danger. There was already a vsc/ double yellows so it could've been done if the car wasn't so trashed.

However Max clearly caused the collision instead of bailing out and trying again later.

Both drivers screwed up.

You can't have it both ways when it comes to the stewards decision. If everyone is willing to jump on HAM for Silverstone where was found "predominantly" at fault (not 100%), take this decision and move on without adding additional nonsense to this thread like the Silverstone thread.

If anything, this might even be beneficial to Red Bull. Might as well take grid penalty if they're contemplating an engine swap.

Pls send me an address so that I might send you a stone to attempt to reason with. It will be just as productive. I've given up, completely.

The Crash:

HAM had the corner. Max lost control during his lunge, hit the sausage curbs and launched into HAM almost killing him. HAMs helmet hit by wheel. Unbelievable.

To quote Max less than 5 minutes after the crash: "That's what happens when you don't give me space."

Shrill child.
Negative !

Once again HAM was going too wide in the (slow) T1 turn , with MAX along him !
Going too wide in the slow T1 is/was unnecessary !
But with MAX along him , HAM found it necessary going wide and to push MAX on the sausage curb !
What followed was a unavoidable crash ...

#Silverstone 2 !

By the crash MAX's car ended up on top of HAM's car ...
Then we witnessed HAM's biggest mistake of his whole career , he pulled the Merc's gearbox in (R) reverse and smashed his accelerator more than once !
I'm not sure about the FIA regulations regarding HAM's crazy attempt to escape from under MAX's car ..
But as far as I know ...This beats anything !!!

With the engine grid penalty coming for Max, this penalty becomes meaningless. Of course they’ll have to take new engine in Russia. Checo loses to dude coming from last place, what the hell is that!. I like Checo, but time to switch seats with Gasly.

No, my friend. HAM bailed out when he was in the same position as Max on lap ONE. Max needs to own this, get better, and move on. As do his fans.

If anything, this grid penalty was lenient. I would have started him from the back of the grid or a 10 grid-drop penalty ruling. Max is a danger to all around him. He stated, "This what happens when you don't give me space." He is saying he will crash into you. He actually deserves a race ban, for stating this, on its own. He is a menace.

Checo was really starting to get on my nerves this race. Pulled the same stunt twice this weekend. 5 second penalty wasn't enough.

I don't want Gasly in the RBR seat so long as max is there. I'd rather he go to McL once Danny ric takes off.

Watching the replay I didn’t think he bailed. Looks like their front wheels touched, Lewis locked up and had to straighten out instead of continuing to turn.

What is the point of the speed bumps though?

I feel like it makes those "escapes and bail outs" problematic. And in this case it jostled the redbull enough to get unsettled and ride up the side of the Mercedes.

If those speed bumps aren't there it makes bailing out safer for the bailer (less chance of damaged wing or underbody). And if overtaking occurs then race control tells position to be given up. And if speed bumps aren't there but driver is cutting off too much corner then they get the warnings until it occurs too often.

So why are the speed bumps there again? Can someone explain to me? Thanks.

I wasn’t aware of any extra allotted development time for finishing lower. I’m all for 4th in that case, especially beneficial because of a massive overhaul in regulations.

That could be done in another manner though, no? Just like the turn 11 warnings. They could say to not have any part of the inside tire not on the kerb. Two warnings then a penalty.
