Just noticed this is owner’s opinion. Not biased at all. Gorgeous car. They should put it in Louvre.

Just curious, if the G87 turned you off so much what are you replacing it with?

Yeah there are a whole lot of subjective assessments flying around here in a discussion that is, at the end of the day, pretty pointless. I’ve just been sitting here eating popcorn and watching.

I’ll say this though. Of all the possible issues I could have with the styling of the G87, to me the biggest is the rear bumper. When I went to see it in person and test drive it, frankly I hardly noticed the rear bumper. I wasn’t trying to block it out and ignore it, I was just too busy focusing on the parts of the design that I did appreciate instead.

I’ve owned cars in the past that I absolutely loved the look of, and ended up giving them up because of issues with the driving experience. I’ve also had the opposite experience. In my younger years when I didn’t have the means I do now, I owned three different 350z’s. Base model. No rear diff. Shifter definitely could’ve been better. I liked the look of the rear, with the wide fenders, but I hated the tail lights. Didn’t really care for the look of the car at all from the front. Looked like a cheap imitation 911 to me. In the end though I didn’t care, because I loved driving the car. I could make it dance and it always put a smile on my face.

Looks and first impressions count for something, but that only goes so far. When you actually own a car there’s a lot more that goes into your overall feeling about it. I can feel however I want about the G87’s looks, but at the end of the day, the driving experience is 100% all there, and that’s what will matter most most to me in the end.

The F87 vs G87 forum wars are a bit silly. I don’t think that any new generation of M car going all the way back to the E36 had made the previous generation irrelevant. F87CS was Evo car of the year. I don’t think we’re going to have some epiphany years from now about how we were “all wrong” about the F87 at the time.

And there’s basically zero chance that the G87 is going to be viewed as a failure. It represents a fairly distinct departure in terms of design. But that’s the point. Otherwise they could have just updated the model year for the F87.

Looks are subjective. No one’s going to convince anyone else that it looks good and a well crafted long comment to that effect is somewhat pointless. The M2 was the bestselling M car ever. BMW is going to ensure that the new generation is a success.
100% I come here to share my love of BMW's, not be attacked by some butt-hurt F87 owner. Let's all just be friends.

Even though you’re WRONG, I get what you’re saying because the CS comes with styling cues that doesn’t come with the M2C such as the the spoiler, splitter, those wheels, vented hood, etc.

Which is another point I’d like to make, it’s kinda fuccin stupid the CS owners are comparing the F87 CS to a bone stock G87. Give the G87 all the same visual upgrades and it makes the F87CS look even older

I agree, the g87 looks way better and aggressive if you compare it with an stock f87. I don’t get why people are comparing the stock g87 with already modded cars. Plus I think the f87 looks feminine just my opinion

its hilarious how butthurt some F87 owners get when some folks say the G87 looks better, looks are subjective, but damn the hate from some F87 has gone too damn far. its like need to find a way to make themselves feel better that the new family member in the house is getting more attention. At the end of the day its still a BMW, and guess what people are still going to buy it and love it. The G80 and G82 are a prefect example, back in 2020 a lot of people were like WTF?!? and now, theres def more love for it than the older generations and we see them on the road everywhere, the same F8x owners who prob bashed the G8x are switching to them. I can even go on and say the same thing about the F80x back in 2014 and all the E9x owners were saying wtf and look how great the F8x came about.
There's more to buying a car just for the looks, esp an M car.

Exactly, the value placed on looking back at a car once you park it should be weighed against all other aspects that are important to the individual.

There's something for everyone...

Oh I don't. See my 2021 M2C thread. I had the last scheduled ED ever for that car. Called and ordered it the day they said they were cancelling. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to do the ED because of Covid. At some point, God and Porsche willing, I'll do another ED.

I agree with you about an opinion. But add up both sides of the argument on styling and you might find more in the camp of not liking it.

I think more people like evolution and this new M2 didn’t exactly evolve.

Hated the f30 hood line. Previous M2 as well.

They said pedestrian safety as a reason a while ago. Wish it closed at the kidney.

This is a well-written piece that still does not disprove the G87 is an extremely unpleasant design that looks like an alibaba aftermarket fiberglass kit on an M2.

At the end of the day who cares though?
If you like the car overall and want to buy it would you not because people thought it was ugly?

I mean when I look at the M240 I'm like I love it. When I look at the m2 I like some parts and don't like others. But the power plant and other mechanical features win for me.

You think my car is ugly? Ok. I'm gonna smile the whole ride home because it's a great car and that's why I bought it

That’s the right spirit and will also keep you on a healthy mental path.

Twitter/Message Boards- are all an experiment to see how much abuse and anxiety we can take.

Spending 70,000 on a car then having everyone hate it doesn’t feel great.

I’ve been taking the abuse all the way back in the e46 roadfly message board days…. Oh no you picked the 325i and didn’t pick the 330i! I recall originally wanting the 325i but was greatly influenced to pick the higher output 330i. RWD ofcourse to be an “enthusiast”.

I wouldn’t be surprised if all along automakers influenced and infiltrated forums to sell their cars.

How can someone prove or disprove that a car is ugly? No amount of hood line analysis or cleverly worded bashing or popular opinion will prove things one way or the other. It’s really just up to the individual.

I despise the hood line - looks so cheap. Hated it on my F80; it’s better managed on the G8X due to the bent metal.

I caved like you did and have a fugly G80cx sitting in Bremerhaven right now (should be an ED). I’ve been hating on the G8xs for years but the wife wants me to grab a 4 door AWD sedan. It will be easier for family duty, ski trips and all around winter driving. Still don’t love the front but plan an aftermarket solution. How are you liking the car? I’m getting rid of a pristine 2020 M4 comp with 38k on it. It’s a tough pill to swallow.
