for sure it now looks that Merc's recent upgrades work, and that the zeropod design was a failure.
Now they can more or less match the AMR's speed which was certainly not the case at the start of the season.
But I wonder how much all those upgrades and more or less figuring out a new car cost in terms of annual budget and windtunnel/simulation time.

Question is, can Red Bull run the table and win every race this year? Love to know the betting odds on that happening?

I think that is very difficult. There is a high chance that something like a crash will happen (and mechanical problems are als a possibility), and with Checo not always present to be the runner up, it comes all down to Max.
If Checo had a steady runner up presence in the races, chances would be much higher.

Either punish both instances or don't punish any instance, but this looks very much like random refereeing.

True. As regards team results, Hamilton - Rosberg in 2016 were a better match as power duo (though they did not get along with each other - Niki Lauda confided that their personal relationship was bad). Perez does his best but meets his competence limits in driving the best car of the season. Looks like lately he's struggling in handling the stress to get a podium result. He misses consistency in achieving podium finishes. For a WDC title, much more is required than just raw talent - IMHO Perez ain't talented enough to be WDC material. If this drags on, he risks to lose second place in the WDC. Alonso and Hamilton are gradually closing in on him in the WDC standings.

The problem about this Stewards decision is that it sets a bad example: it encourages teams and drivers to take the risk of 'elbows out' antics in the pitlane for the sake of gaining a track position. Stewards: "Car 14 [Alonso] had to perform minor braking": Alonso ain't the type of driver braking and wildly shaking his steering wheel for no reason - the fact that he braked and violently steered means that he intended to avoid crashing into Hamilton. He also complained about this on the onboard radio and waved his hand as protest.

If some driver would have done the same to Hamilton in the pitlane, the latter might have legitimately complained that it was "some dangerous driving".

If Alonso "had to perform minor braking" as the Stewards considered (thus required to brake), it means that Hamilton had become an obstacle while Alonso was driving in the pitlane on his way to re-enter the track.

Toto had to act out ALO's reaction because he got nervous about getting a penalty. If he had known ALO was going to overtake HAM on track anyways, he would not have gotten so nervous

I adore Alonso but have to agree with Toto on this one, he definitely did the fake steering wheel shake thing on this one. Reminds me of seeing it on the road with low power cars where the driver is faking that he’s breaking traction.

Good race!

Unsafe antics? Let’s patch in Briatore, Piquet and Alonso to the convo. They can teach us a thing or two about unsafe antics.

Very good race today. Max really just managing pace and despite the SC and several yellow flags/incidents he still manages to beat Alo by 10 seconds and Ham by 15...add back the time lost on incidents and its 15-17 gap to Alo and 20-25 to Ham. And you know Alo and Ham were pushing hard with the lap times they were cranking in there. Did anyone notice that after the SC ended Max put a 1.2 second gap on Ham on that lap alone - and both were going for it. I think the gap is still considerable if RB were to tell Max to push...
Ferrari had decent results given where they were on the starting grid, and same with Per but man does he need to start putting himself on the podium more.
