In exactly the same situation. My car has been sitting at the VPC for 10 days now and at first, it was supposedly not assigned a carrier. However, now after that estimated ship date has passed, I'm being told there most likely it is because the port installed accessories have not been installed. No ETA either. So just patiently going to sit & wait here.. but it sucks big time.

I’m just glad I ordered shit to install myself, granted it’s not Mperf stuff but I’m glad I know I won’t have to wait another month plus to install something that I can do at home. I totally get the warranties etc but I WANT MY CAR

Agreed. Our next unit in the pipeline, the client wanted to add some M performance items. I advised them that they would be better off to purchase the items online and DIY or have our service department do the install, otherwise they would only be prolonging their delivery.

The real takeaway is that BMW is NOT providing enough information for buyers to make informed buying decisions, and that's really a shame. It doesn't have to be this way, this information COULD be made available via a customer or CA portal.

Finally after over a month at the processing center with stop sale, my car released today to the carrier, scheduled for dealer delivery on the 27th.

Finally have a SIB which describes the issue in detail and shows how they are going about to correct it. Although this doesn't list the G42/G87 it describes the exact same issue for the G20 which we know were also affected by the stop sale. I suspect they may update this SIB in a future revision to include those models. Another possibility is the issue was isolated enough with those models that any cars that were affected are already being addressed.

It looks as though the air riveter used on the pop rivets removed the protective coating across most of the face of the aluminium rivet (it still seems to be visible on the edges). The riveter possibly had a worn nose piece on it, but the application of seam sealer should completely alleviate any corrosion issue from where the coating was removed.
As the SIB says, the structural integrity is due to the adhesive anyway, the rivets are there to tightly hold the assembly in place while the adhesive cures, the rivet corrosion without the seam sealer for surface protection would be more of a cosmetic issue in the future. |

So the takeaway is:
1) good news: the defect was cosmetic and there's no long term issues. 2) bad news: buyers had to suffer a stop sale for a cosmetic issue rather than a later recall. BMW could have let you have your car and fixed it later. I get why BMW didn't do that, it is much cheaper and does less PR damage than issuing a recall. Still, it's gotta sting. |

However, I would have rather had the repair done at the factory or VPC than at the local dealer. By now, the techs at VPC have gained sufficient enough experience in this particular task to, hopefully, do a great job. Whereas, your local dealer techs (as good as they may be) may require additional training. |
