I just realized last night that the BMW app tracks all kind of stuff related to the car. I'm anxiously checking it every other hour now lol. Looks like the hood, trunk, doors and all windows are open so it sounds like she's getting worked on. Bonus points for it tracking GPS so I can be comfortable they're not taking it on any joy rides.

They said it should be ready a week from tomorrow so we're getting closer but god damn it is TORTURE. I've driven the car about 60 miles since I've owned it

For those who have PPF'd their cars what are the most important sections to cover. I know the front and hood of course. The sides? If not the entire side the doors at least? Thanks.

I am considering covering the CF roof in vinyl to match the body color rather than ppf. Will a vinyl wrap provide protection like ppf?

I did what’s called the track package and feel it does a good job of covering all the high impact areas. This is what I have done for all my cars except the truck. I did ask to apply extra PPF along the lower part of the door instead of just the rocker. I didn’t do the CF roof but did get the A pillars.

From what I gather, no. Some companies do make black colored PPF, however. That will provide the protection you are wanting.

I did the whole car, but I would say the rockers and rear quarter panels with how wide the car is. It kicks up debris in these sections. If you have the CF roof, it’s also a good idea to protect that as it can not be fixed as simple as the rest of the body if you get a chip (not saying the roof will, but still).

Got it. I am getting a white m2 with a cf roof so I guess I can vinyl the roof in white and then ppf over the vinyl?

Then it will be ok to debagging the car. The truck is easy, the front grill looks a bit more complicated.

Well, I can't imagine why you would want to cover the carbon roof with anything but clear personally, but if you wish I know STEK makes colored PPF. The PPF itself is colored:

https://www.stek-usa.com/fashion-fil...noblack-gloss/

Xpel does a black PPF too:

https://www.xpel.com/products/paint-.../ultimate-plus

I don't think you're going to have good luck matching a white PPF, but STEK does make one in white too.

Why would you want to hide the carbon fiber???

I need the headroom of the CF roof to fit in the drivers seat, but don’t like the look of a CF roof personally.

I've gone through various PPF posts and there is a lot of information with various opinions so I wanted to see if this quote I received from a reputable shop in Houston,TX is a reasonable. The different types of PPF, brands and levels just pass over my head

-S-TEK DYNOshield PPF (Full front): $2000
-Modesta BC-08 Ceramic Coating Paint: $1150
-Ceramic Window Tint Autobahn Black single layer: $270
-Windshield ceramic window tint Autobahn air single layer:$270
-Modesta BC-06 Ceramic Coating wheels and brakes: $360

With some black friday discounts (Or claim to be black friday discounts of $750)
So total out the door is about $3300.
Seems reasonable to what I am seeing around but I dont know if people are paying that price for better or worse quality of PPF/ceramic etc
They said they would need the car for 6 days

Thanks! The film is Kavaca, and there are some seams but they’re not really visible unless you’re really searching for them.

Spoke to the owner of the PPF shop today. I was hoping I could get the car back this week but he promised early to mid next week. I asked why it's taking so long and he confirmed that they took my car in with a backlog. When it's done I'm going to politely request a discount as I felt misled with having paid a deposit to bring it in on a certain day and still having to wait 4 weeks to get it done. I just wish they would have been up front with me before I brought it.

He sent some pics of the work so far. Hopefully the wait will be well worth it. Enjoying my car for 70 miles and then being without it for a month has been absolute torture.

Honestly why does it take 4 weeks? That’s insane!
