$0.35 for a slice of pizza. $0.35 to get on the train or bus. And I remember the first time gas went above $1.00/gallon. The old pumps didn't go up that high and they were charging you by the half gallon. EDIT- Started an old people thread. Hijack over, back to LOL pics.

At end of week - I would stop at the local Circle K Citgo and fill up my 79 Subaru GL Hatchback and get a pack of smokes - total was about $10. Gas was 87 cents a gallon. Side note - had a thing going with a girl I was dating at the time - she lived a few blocks away and would order the minimum delivery of $5 and give an address that was at the far reach of our delivery area - which would in theory take about 45mins round trip. Took me about 2mins to get to her house. Would um...hang out for 40mins or so then head back to work.

I used to take two six packs of empty Coca Cola bottles to the market, get the money for them and walk next door to get a haircut with the money. My memory is that was $0.25 but it might have been $0.50. I’m still resistant to haircuts costing much more than that, and it shows!

I did not. Below was my first phone (came out a few years later). I recall seeing the wife call, thinking "for $1.13 connection fee and 50 cents a minute...this better be a fuckin good reason to call me". Hated those days...

Right out of high school $20 would get you a tank full of gas and a case of Budweiser and maybe enough left over for a bag of ice.

My first cell phone was hardwired in the car with a coiled cord and an antenna on the roof. Flip phone came later.

In high school (the sixties), I was a cashier in our neighborhood supermarket. Customers would watch us like a hawk making certain we were counting out the correct number of stamps for the amount of their bill. We were required to neatly fold the stamps...then wrap the receipt around them. I remember often being asked to recount the stamps...we did it so automatically and fast they were unsure we didn't short them.

Also ~ a $2800 Mustang in 1964 (first year they were released) comes out to $24k today, which is about how much Mustangs go for today. If we kept an index of Mustang for purchase power those prices aren't too far away off from today's prices. Milk has seemingly inflated A LOT since then ($8 per gallon based on 1964) |

I've got an old magazine with the picture of the mustang on it. You open it up....it says "introducing the all new Mustang". The magazine was bought because since I was a small kid, I always collected "Peanuts" memorabilia...."Snoopy". There was a Charles Schultz interview in it. I had/have 1st edition books, signed artwork, original "cells" from a few of the old animated specials like the Halloween special. I've got toys, watches, ornaments, and even old View Finders. Most of this in unopened original packaging. I sold about 1/2 my collection when Schultz died. It almost payed for my daughter's college education! It's amazing what stuff like that is worth to collectors. Just something I liked as a kid that grew into a hobby. I even have a 1965 TV guide advertising the first Charlie Brown Christmas Special.
