I haven't bothered to read the whole thread but I have the Chase Sapphire card which used to be my go to card. Now I also have the Barclay Arrival+ which has most of the benefits of the Sapphire card as well as offering double points on everything including prescriptions and even my mom's assisted care facility at $4,000. per month...that adds up!

FYI- many lounges require the Priority Pass card and don't do pay per stay. We landed in Singapore Changi Airport and wanted to go to SATS Premier lounge but they need the PP which we haven't received yet. Ended up at Ambassador Lounge (paid using CSR which will get reimbursed) which is pretty good (has showers which is a plus and couches to sleep on).

We haven't traveled much since the kids were born so I called Amex to downgrade to gold a few years ago and they credited me the $200 airline credit, which I had not used. I thought that was pretty nice. The following year we had an incident in Italy with a rental car getting a flat tire in Cinque Terre, it took two days to get the tire. Amex refunded me for the tire as well as the two nights in the hotel. This past spring I changed banks (checking/savings) and therefor had to change the "pay from" account for all of my cards. The only one that managed to get screwed up was the Amex payment (I always pay the balance in full for both my charge and credit card with them). I called them in a panic as I've never had a late payment and they immediately reversed the late charge and interest, without hesitation. Truly an outstanding company to deal with. I'm kind of surprised they didn't try harder to keep my platinum business but I think that's because I actually only actually use my Amex Everyday Preferred card, so they're not actually losing my business. They saw you literally leaving the company so they fought to keep you - and fought well.

My wife has a separate card for her work travel so we got the card this weekend for it. One of the hassles with changing cards is going to every place it is stored (hotels, car rental, etc.) and changing it. For us it looks like a great introductory deal but not sure we will keep it after the first year when renewal comes around.

Hey guys, just a heads up..
Their travel insurance DOES cover vacation cancellations due to acts of terrorism, but it DOES NOT cover cancellations due to wars, either declared or undeclared. So plan accordingly!

Got my chase sapphire yesterday. Already spent 5k on the house. Will get the reserve, and spend another 5k, also on the house.

Update: I am pretty close to getting the JP Morgan Reserve card (different product). Currently working with my local branch, but I should be getting another 100,000 points and will cancel my Sapphire Reserve card soon and use the JP Morgan exclusively.

I have both the CSR and the JPM Reserve, and you may want to rethink closing the CSR. The JPMR attracts a lot of attention, and it gets annoying. The CSR is anonymous. That's the only reason I'm hanging on to it. |
