I don't understand the weight gain...
Agreed and I don't usually care much about weight but +500lb is insane when I was convinced we would be staying flat or even decreasing after the F8x.
Like having the old Barr & McCarthy in the back seats!

Nothing desirable about this future 2 series....

- Hofmeister Kink eliminated (will be similar to 1 or 3 series)
- Hood line in the middle of nowhere, for no reason, again
- No double (round, hexagonal or whatsoever) headlights
- No horizontal taillights.
- No single character line with door handles integrated in it.

So not a single design cue of BMW. No BMW.

This comparison is great. It shows how perfect the F87 is.

The 1 series was a bit too short, the 4 series a bit too long, and the new one is just weird.

I'm afraid it's quite close to reality. The weird headlight shapes are almost sure to happen. I hope they at least stay away from the weird triangles.

It looks like the design has the Hofmeister Kink in the leaked pic of the new 2 series.

One thing you can guarantee is that it will continue to have MORE...more weight, more power, more size...not exactly what's needed from a drivers car.
At least it should get a better choice of colours & those superb seats from the F80/82 are sure to make an appearance on some version.

I hope so, but it doesn’t show the upper part and it could well be the ‘arrow like’ thing of the 1 and 3 series....

Right and we've now seen the drastic changes BMW can make between a base car and an M car. Let's just wait and see before we demolish the car.

Not going to have 510hp. It will be detuned to have less horsepower than the M3/M4, just like the F Series generation.

COVID-permitting, I'd imagine it'll be revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 21

Back in 2016, some folks had to wait many months to get the keys of the highly anticipated original F87 M2. There were waiting lists and markups in some regions. And back then there was also the appealing F80 M3 and F82 M4 around as premium alternative.

It goes without saying that late 2022 we may also expect high anticipation for the second generation M2 after a painstakingly drawn out hype in 2021-2022. Combine this with something different compared to 2015-2016 that may even draw more attention to the G87 M2: the boat-sized G80 M3 and G82 M4 with its 'peculiar' design will be around (maybe already an LCI [life cycle impulse]).

So, realistically speaking, make that 'someday in 2023' at the very earliest for you. And as you know, it's still the dreadful 2020 as we speak. You can still get an M2 Competition or M2 CS and enjoy those cars in the very near future, knowing exactly what to expect from those 'final design stage' M2 cars.
Agreed. This is my position exactly and I appreciate this comment. I am going with the M2C sometime in the next couple of months. If it turns out to be the most desired of the remaining M2's, I am already in - if not, it will have been fun to drive for the next several years, and I can grab one of G87's on the way out. The key word here is 'optionality'.

I honestly can't think of a better looking BMW than the F87. Hopefully the prices soften when the G87 is launched then I'll buy one lightly used and keep it ... forever!

The next-generation M2 is not going into production until December 2022, so you have two whole years until you can order one.

Exact same boat as you, although I will probably wait it out since I have too many toys already.

For me personally, it'll be interesting to see how the current M2CS does in the used market around that time frame. If it's "reasonable" and the G87C LCI is not my cup of tea, then I might jump on the boat.

Of what is available currently, I definitely agree.

And other than the E46, it may be my favorite of all time. I really cannot think of another BMW I've been more attracted to. It's gotta be those hips!

Fully agree with this, aside from the F80 M3 nothing since the E46 has had much appeal to me. Love my F87 LCi and won't be letting it go for many many years.
