I feel like it makes those "escapes and bail outs" problematic. And in this case it jostled the redbull enough to get unsettled and ride up the side of the Mercedes.

If those speed bumps aren't there it makes bailing out safer for the bailer (less chance of damaged wing or underbody). And if overtaking occurs then race control tells position to be given up. And if speed bumps aren't there but driver is cutting off too much corner then they get the warnings until it occurs too often.

So why are the speed bumps there again? Can someone explain to me? Thanks.
To discourage cutting the corner.
That could be done in another manner though, no? Just like the turn 11 warnings. They could say to not have any part of the inside tire not on the kerb. Two warnings then a penalty.
Not exactly. That corner comes after a very high speed straight. If someone cuts that corner on entry they could plow in to a car exiting the corner.

The kerb there could then make them get airborne in that instance though.

I understand it deters a driver but when they do hit it I feel like it can make a bad situation worse.

Considering the grid penalty it might be a good moment for Max to add the extra PU in Sochi.

It's more to isolate any sort of damage/accident. If you're going to cause any damage, might as well be your car and your car only.

Yeah it can in some cases. Like today. But generally as a driver you have to know the rules of the track and you have a steep punishment if you fail to follow them.

Laguna seca is another good example. If you try cutting corners you're going home with square wheels.

I was probably most annoyed in the post race interviews immediately after the finish. I'm not a Bottas fan at all, but he starts last and ends up on the podium, and all the interviewer wants to talk about is the Hamilton/Verstappen incident to the point of asking him to watch a clip of it. Bottas seemed less than amused.

Yeah….that was stupid.

They knew what they were doing though.

That would be an ideal decision and would be good if Ham took it too.

I think no matter what another driver does in this year, every talk finally ends in VER-HAM.

This year is going into the historybooks on similar level as the Senna-Prost era I think.
This WDC is so close and it's also about the potentially most talented driver (or not depending on the side you take) dethroning the establishment.
That's always good for discussion

I have to say as a Hamilton fan I disagree with the penalty - it was a racing incident in my view.

I also have to say though it's a big rich of Max to speak of giving the other driver room when on lap 1 he did exactly the opposite and the only reason they didn't contact then was Lewis bailed and went over the kerbs ( which Max should have done ).

I hope they both now race hard and fair for the rest of the season.

I'm watching it now so I'll see the race unfold in full. Were you watching it from the teras my friend, it was a dramatic GP.

I think nothing is going to change from both HAM and VER side.
This WDC is so close and the cars/drivers are so close that I think we will see some more crashes between the two this season.

Nice resolution on that shot.
20 years ago this would have been one big blur and now we can almost read the stampings on the wheel balancing weigth

I’m with you but this is wishful thinking at best. The rules of engagement between these two are well established now and I expect plenty of contact all the way until the end. With Ham trying to achieve his 8th title and Max trying to get his 1st, desperation is plentiful and I think a bit of luck, who comes out better after contact, will determine this years winner.

Giovinazzi getting a 5 second penalty after being punted off by Sainz and losing his wing then Mercmafia give him the penalty for an unsafe release??,come on even Coulthard agrees that it was just plain silly by stewards..the same lot that gave Max a 3 place grid drop !!

Yeah . And I'm pretty sure that MAX's tyre touched Ham's helmet..
Because HAM's helmet looks like it was pushed downwards...

Crazy !

Yeah. And there is more ...
I was reading about the whole situation , and the Wolf just said : MAX piled up his car intentionally !
That's why he got the 3 P penalty...

Another thing : Something is changed today !
I noticed that the McLaren's are faster than usual with a 'full fuel tank...

The contrast was huge today at Monza . As we know that RIC was nowhere in the previous races ...

Great race by the McLaren's anyway !

The question is why McL's are suddenly faster when ricciardo was always lagging behind.
