Just like a EV's: After the shutdown of production at GE, Elec-Traks were produced under the Wheel Horse[12] and Avco New Idea[13][14] labels.

Yeah, I know, I've had one since 1973. It used a Wheelhorse transaxle. It was basically a GE golf cart EV drivesystem and charger in a Wheelhorse chassis.

Main difference between EVs of today was in 1970 the Feds did provide tax incentives to buy EV garden tractors.

In the UK of you buy an ev and you work for yourself ie self employed pr you purchase it through your company you get 40% of the purchase price of the car refunded. Ie a 60k new EV becomes 36k!!
The taxpayer subsidises this. There has been tonnes of EV bought for this reason.

Me too. I have a Snapper electric lawn mower now that I use for the small areas and hills on my property. I have a short steep hill in the back of the house that is better to cut with the electric mower than my gas mower because no worry about oil starvation.

But I also bought a Snapper bundle with a handheld blower and a chainsaw. It's more convenient to use the blower to blowout the garage and shed, dust off the porches, blowout the cars interiors and dry off the cars after a wash than to fire up my backpack blower.

And the beauty of the chainsaw is my wife can't hear it when I cut down trees with it (like yesterday). The chainsaw was really the impetus for going electric

Our latest EV discussion about EV lawn equipment led me on a search this morning.

I have a Ferris 500EZ zero turn mower. I think it's 8 years old now. It is a small commercial-grade mower with full 4-corner coil-over suspension and 48" fabricated 10-gauge steel deck. My home is located on a 2B year old riverbed so the yard is mostly river rock covered in a few inches of soil, so I need the suspension and fabricated deck with seriously tough cutting blades. The current Ferris model is now a 500S.

Looking for an equivalent EV zero turn I found the Mean Green Nemesis. It cuts 5 acres on a full charge. It is best categorized as a very heavy-duty residential machine (it has a fabricated deck) and heavy-duty frame with a hard suspension.

The Ferris 500s MSRP is $6,299. The Mean Green Nemesis is $16,499. The planet will have to get a little bit warmer. Sorry.

I figure I'll be long dead before the motor on my John Deere quits on me, I spent about $2500 on it, got a good deal but I can't imagine how much it would cost to go electric equivalent.

Okay to be Green... except for her because it's an inconvenient truth...

At this point, for any honest discussion about EVs, you have to disconnect the environmental component. I'm fine if folks believe in saving the environment, but if you honestly believe that electric cars accomplish that, it's kind of just a sign you're an idiot/propaganda follower.

Cue the apologists blaming the apprehensive ones for letting perfect be the enemy of good. It’s like there’s no ramifications beyond the projected environmental ones if this EV bet doesn’t pan out.

Sure . While she has handed her EV back to stop her hair falling out with worry her comment that 'electric is the future' is misconstrued.
Electricity prices are rising through the roof, so much so that in my search for a new house I have backed out of one which was at first seemingly a great deal until I discovered it had just electric under floor heating on the concrete floors I have had to let that one go.

More things that should make you go Hmmmm...

Siemens Energy shares plunge more than 37% as wind turbine worries deepen

The company, born from the spinoff of the former gas and power division of German conglomerate Siemens, announced late Thursday that a review of issues at subsidiary Siemens Gamesa had found a “substantial increase in failure rates of wind turbine components.”

Siemens Energy CEO Christian Bruch told journalists on a call Friday that “too much had been swept under the carpet” at Siemens Gamesa and that the quality issues were “more severe than [he] thought possible,” according to Reuters.

Siemens Energy estimates that component failures may be occurring in between 15% and 30% of its installed fleet of turbines, but Green noted that there is still a “slight question mark about where that liability ends.”

Anyone want to guess that the "Liabilty" will end with the tax payers?

Trying to save the planet is a very expensive proposition.

I've noticed the more "advanced" car builders in this space i.e. Tesla are actually slowly even moving away from this thinking because they may have figured out there are better ways to get more sales.

Their selling motto now is the stupid auto driving, dumb tech features and overall performance of the cars. There really hasn't been any increase in range nor much talk about any Eco or Environmental savings from there for a while. In fact, if you look at their website, the only place that even comes into play are the tax credits and some number on how much money could be saved vs driving a gas car... maybe they realized selling 100s of thousands of Ev's is a poor way to go about bringing a car that is to save the planet.

Simple, because the electricity supply will be unsustainable. There are problems even now without adding to it and the fast rising price of electricity (note my post with regards to house purchase) as well as the supply is already strain on the electrical generation from substations. The impact on the next generations will be bad financially which they are walking into without much thought.
