This is such a harsh objectification of your opinion.

I’m reading a lot of these responses as “The M2 isn’t even that great, I only bought one because manual.”

Why is it so difficult to agree that the M2 is a great car regardless of transmission?

Flat out, cause some people are obnoxious idiots just looking for a fight.

Agree. Some people just gotta argue.

Personally I go with this statement, I love my MT M2 because I wanted a MT M2. Kinda like I love my M2 in ZB. It’s funny that the post about would you have bought a different color wasn’t nearly this impassioned.

If I had to get an M2 in TR I would have gotten a different car 😅

It's not difficult for me.
It's an M4 with a slightly better chassis (shorter wheelbase) on the cheap.
Well relatively cheap. I think of it as the M car stripper.

The trade-off for a lower price is limited interior options and limited exterior colors.

Otherwise for a lot less money, you get all the car and M4 is and in some cases, more car.

The M2 is great no matter the transmission. I just want a manual because for 20+ years my daily drivers were an E30 M3 then an E36 M3.

I got the auto only because my wife wanted to drive the M2 sometimes. As far as the manual goes, I have two other manual cars so I'm fine. My left leg gets enough of a workout. hahaha

Love how these auto versus manual threads generate so much passion! Going to throw my hat in the ring too although I feel like there is a version of what I’m about to say somewhere in these 13 pages of joy.

OP, if you’re even asking the question with the premise of performance in mind; you should get the auto. A Chevy Spark will jump a MT G87 at a stoplight. This is a fact that anyone who truly wants a new MT vehicle knows and could care less about…

Yes and even an auto g87 is gonna get beat by a lot of new EVs so might as well have more fun rowing the gears and pushing the 3rd pedal if you’re going to have a slow car anyway 😀

What happens when rowing gears no longer brings the same fun it used to, and becomes more of a chore?

I’ll stop driving a manual when I’m too senile to have a driving licence.

I’m pushing 50 with 3 manual cars driving in and around NYC my whole life. Only my modified STi with aftermarket clutch and big injector idling sometimes gets annoying in traffic. Still having fun rowing gears. I do have an Auto forester company car but don’t really like driving it.

My 91 year old uncle with dodgy knees still drives his manual equipped diesel in heavy UK traffic, with no problems.

I’m in my 40s and grew pretty sick to death of shifting my 135i around traffic as a daily, towards the end of my ownership with it. I don’t want that feeling to return with this one. I don’t know, I guess I’ve changed enough after 9 manuals that it’s not necessarily the actions of shifting that bring me the full enjoyment of the car.
Time will tell, of course. If I’ve made a horrible decision on the auto, luckily, I will have time to get into another G87 before the MTs are all gone for good.

Like you I’ve had a boatload of manuals. All my classic (6) and muscle cars (4) from 1965-70 were sticks. I drove at least one of them until 2021 when the last of the bunch, a 65 Mustang convertible, was sold. Pic below.

The decision to our G87 auto had much to do with matrimonial harmony. This is the wrong car for a novice to learn a manual transmission. (IMO)

Having owned the car for almost a year, I can honestly say the automatic is a hoot and at this stage in my life if I never own another standard, that’s ok.

You’re young enough to make the move back to MT but I think you’ll enjoy your build.

Opposite of my wife. She probably wouldn't drive an auto.
The one manual car whe have is a 2010 Mini Cooper S with a MT and it's her commute car.

Yeah, people who claim they like driving stick but say they’re annoying in traffic don’t really like manuals. I had an MT E46 M3 and a E92 335i living in Hong Kong, and not once was that a complaint of mine. Multiple hill starts in traffic in the M3 were fun because they required some pretty swiftly coordination (unless I cheated and used the handbrake lol)

Speaking of which.
My biggest gripe in G87 is lack of manual handbrake.

LOL. Dude are you seriously trying to impress with hill-starts?
I was doing hill starts at 14 years old. I love manuals and drove them exclusively for 2 + decades. You couldn’t get me into an auto.
I will never not love manuals (some are better than others).
But to have the infantile attitude of black vs white is, well, baby stuff.
Grow up.

Perhaps find something to fill your life with other than starting pointless threads on the internet? I was simply making the point that I enjoy everything to do with driving a manual. Even the “annoying” stuff.

You sir no longer enjoy driving a manual. You loved manuals (past tense). You got called out and now you’re having a hissy fit. Infantile? Classic example of the pot calling the kettle black. Have a happy 4th. Not responding to anything further from you.

BroDoze As I have stated before in this thread, time for you to by an auto and quit making excuses for it. Buy what you want and quit harassing others for buying what they want.

I almost bought the auto, I really did. Knowing it was easier to drive was a super draw. But I bought the MT, with all the issues it comes with. I acknowledge i didn't make the smart buy - but I don't care. My money, my decision.
