I was hoping for something like Thunder Night or Techno Violet, but I'll take this shade over the other colors. I would take the green if the purple wasn't an option.

My money is at the dealer and I'm waiting for the allocation. The next allocation is mine. I expect them to have another in the coming weeks.

So I got a text today from my CA advising me that my color was accepted and with it comes a probable production date change from week 32 to week 39. He says its because of the color. Have you seen anything like this with other individual color cars? Anything I can do to get the production week to stay at 32? Appreciate any insight you can offer!

So, you could pick a standard color....
Whether they say it or not individual colors can add up to 12 weeks. My i4 is Tanzanite II and the little note that appeared next to the color indicated a possible delay.

They have to open some amount of paint and it doesn't stay usable indefinitely so they try to batch cars with an individual color so that the paint is consumed.

Not so with standard colors that are always being run.

Am I wrong in thinking that once they accept the build with an individual color it is locked in? Or has it not hit that point yet?

Grigio Telesto. Can’t believe it is going to add 7 weeks to the build. Makes me wonder if I should switch to skyscraper grey instead to keep week 32 production date…

I have no idea. Been out of the BMW ecosystem for the last 10+ years. That would be a question for evdoho

This is from two pages back in a post by evdoho

“Your dealer WILL need to submit a special paint request form to their regional rep with your production number and desired color, preferably sooner than later.

Make sure you’re 100% decided on all the other details of your build, because after individual paint is equipped then the order can no longer be modified.

As far as we know thus far, there is no explicit delay incurred by choosing an individual paint on the G87, but that could change as more time passes so I’d be prepared for a delay just in case.”

I’ve never tried backing-out an individual request after it’s confirmed, so I’m not entirely sure on that scenario.

Individual paint does typically result in a delay, but it also typically consists of a significantly more extensive color palette.

What techwiz said about batching colors is accurate, but theorize with me really quick.
It would be possible for 50 M3 orders to be placed in the same production month with 50 different individual colors, this is obviously not possible with the M2, so I expect things to be a bit different.

I would not apply the usual knowledge we have of individual paint orders to the M2 just yet, this is a somewhat unique offering.

The assumption of the delay is based on the info he shared with me in a photo which I’ll post here for you to see. It references “requested production” showing week 32 and then “sub requested production” showing week 39. What do you make of this?

Yes, my order reads the same way, except it’s week 32 and week 37. I’m waiting on the confirmed production week before making any final determination regarding delays.

Some level of delay appears likely, but not to the same extent as individual paint delays on other models.

In my experience, when the individual paint request is approved and applied to the order, the entire production month gets pushed back to the following month.

For example, these M2 allocations are all “August production” reading 2024/08 in the system, typically that would change to 2024/09 as soon as individual paint is applied, which isn’t the case on the M2 thus far.

It's common that they start production a few weeks early. Congratulations on the car.

Yeah, individual colors with carbon roof only.
Sucks for a lot of people.

I'm doing the Twilight Purple. I don't care about a sunroof. My current car has a sunroof.

I'm actually going in today to configure my car. The only thing I'm torn on is silver vs bi-colir wheels. The bi-colir wheels look good on my i4 which is Tanzanite and on the visualizer they look good on with the Twilight Purple. The silver looks mid on the red car. I'm leaning toward bi-color only because I can see the look.

All of the individual orders for the US are still in 102 status awaiting their confirmed production week.

They will likely be pushed to the back of the line for August quota, but from what I can tell they will not be pushed to the back of the line for NEXT months quota, which is what normally happens with individual paint.

We’ve got to count our blessings here, is there a delay for individual? Yes. Is the delay as severe as it is on every other model with individual? No.

I have an allocation with a production number but no VIN…how can I get this type of build information / update?

Someone else was using the myBMW app I think, but that asks specifically for a VIN from what I can tell
