This whole situation has me thinking…. How can I get a job driving these amazing vehicles on and off a boat???? How many people do they have at port to drive hundreds if not thousands of on and off these boats? I’m sure they are in a union too.

I don't think you want that job. The vehicles are in transport mode, with limited performance (4,000 RPM), no entertainment screen, no interior lights, full of interior wrapping plastic, strong smell of glue and paint, and you are just driving it up or down to one of the ship's 12 dark damp decks.

The only driver job you want is at a valet in an upscale club - good tips, great cars, and nice eye candy.

I did this as a second job out of college. It was a wedding venue, but got to drive some really nice Range Rovers, Mercs, Audis, etc. I think my favorite was a Lamborghini Aventador. I will say, most people do not take care of their cars. They were always filled with garbage and their steering wheels were disgusting.

Yeah I was just joking around! But it was making me wonder how many accidents occur just taking cars on and off the boat. Good to know they can’t go above 4,000 RPM though!

When we pickup at dealers, I imagine they will try to sell us on maintenance plans, etc. Do any of those make sense?

I believe the first 3 years of maintenance is included with every BMW purchase. But I think service intervals are pretty long, like 10,000 miles. You can negotiate to pay every other interval to bring it down to every 5,000 miles. My CA tried to sell me on the wheel warranty package. It sounds better than VW as it covers any cosmetic damage, but it’s $3500. I might consider a longer maintenance plan, but I’ll see if I can sign up for it later.

For that price I'd just pay for fixes as I go. Fixes for curb rash range from $150-$350 in my area.

You can also negotiate the prices they ask for the extended maintenance they offer. It just seems like you're both 1. Paying up front and 2 pay more than you would than if you paid as you go.

I bought a basically brand new set of G80 take off wheels/tires/TPMS for $2800. And those are "forged". I'll eventually turn the stock set up into winter set up.

One thing I was curious was the 4-year maintenance plan that includes the consumable. I plan to keep this car for 4 years. Is it worth it? I figure I could get one set of brakes out of BMW.

Probably depends on how much/hard you drive it. Since the car is heavy, I'm guessing the breaks will wear quicker. But you can't take the car in for service until the car tells you it's time for service.

I bought a 2021 X7 this past year, and went through the same math. I ended up getting the Care+3 (3yrs beyond warrant - so 6yr/100k) package for about $2k, in part because of anticipating needing breaks, otherwise it wasn't worth it. Initially they were asking about $2800 for it, and I declined until they lowered to $2k and the math was close.

The M2 care packages will be much more expensive, but I'm not sure how much yet.

I'm in status 193 now which is "Arrived at port of exit". Hopefully it gets shipped to the dealer soon and I can go pick it up this weekend.

Update: Just spoke to genius and ETA for departure from the port is the 12th.

Is the Care+1 something that extends the warranty by 1 year AND includes all maintenance and consumables? If so it may be worth it.

EDIT: These are the list prices for the M2 (are these generally available for less?)

According to my CA my car is still "Produced not shipped" and also said "From this point, I can only add that most of the info that follows is vague and unreliable, until we actually see it on our lot"

Hopefully it made it but doubtful. Hope some of you made it onto Frontier Ace which should have left for Jacksonville this AM.

What status do you have on the tracker? Waiting for Transport (165)?

Its anyones guess really. We may not know if we made it for another week or two based on how things went with Glovis Cardinal. I'm following the G20 thread too. Crickets over there too.

Having this same discussion and dilemma as well. They are pushing the ultimate care + but also 2 road vantage packages. 1 covers more consumables but also overlaps some with with ultimate care. The other covers wheel and tire, whether oem or after market.

The ultimate includes brakes / rotors as does the road vantage. Really seems like only the ultimate care may be worth it and the others not so much.
