I’m skeptical because I’d expect auto locking to not function if a door is opened or no one sitting seats, which can be detected by sensors for seat belt alarms (on top of the colossal stupidity it would take to get in that position if it were possible). Amusing but guessing staged.

On that car model, does the engine shut off if the driver's door is opened with the transmission in gear? Does it behave differently if the vehicle is in motion?

If the door can be opened with the car in gear and leave the engine running, I suspect that this could be easily duplicated. Leave the key fob in the car, close the door, and the auto-lock will lock the doors when the car reaches 5-10 MPH.....

That happened with me on an E46 one incredibly snowy morning in Canada - without the car being in gear though.
Some weird combination of trying to reverse over a snow/ice bank on a cold engine.
Lots of wheel spin, but no movement. Go back to neutral, see revs jump up a couple of times on that cold engine, open door to get out and shovel snow away. close door and hear the locks click. Classic FML

We lived in a triplex for 3 years, right after I separated from the Army in early 1970. We bought a Mercury Capri 1600 in 1971. Shortly thereafter, neighbor moved in with a new Pinto 1600. He was in the National Guard, so had to drive over a 6% grade 5 days a week on his way to work.

Months later, we were comparing the performance of our two cars (with the same Ford Cortina pushrod 1600cc engine) and he was complaining at how anemic his car was. He told me it would barely climb the grade. I was puzzled because our Capri whizzed up the grade fairly well.

Turns out that he never shifted down to 3rd gear. He just lugged the thing, which I believe damaged the engine. Probably burned the exhaust valves, plus other things. His Pinto had a short life.

As the story goes, my father-in-law taught my wife how to drive a stick by mimicking the gas and clutch pedal with his hands and a couple sentences like "push the clutch in like this, shift, then push the gas as you release the clutch like this." Then handed her the keys and said "go figure it out." She swears that no one told her about neutral. About a year later she's at a long stop light and her left leg is just shaking from holding in the heavy clutch. Her friend asks "why dont you just put it in neutral?!" My wife legitimately had no idea what he was talking about.

My sister bought a new '73 bug from the dealer, not ever driving a stick before. On the way home she figured out how to drive a manual. Just throw 'em in there and they'll learn, eventually. lol
