Well done sir.

I keep telling myself that one day I'll have my dream 458, but I think it's pretty rare. Abu Dhabi Blue with silver calipers and black interior.

Not sure if all the 458 MY had the recall but there is/was the brake oil reservoir recall.
I'm sure you've researched the car but just a friendly FYI.

Fuji is sweet. They do some great whites.

The Wraith had a home for what, 2 months?

It’s a CPO car so the dealer would have to do the recall prior to selling it. Fuji is one of my favorite colors, their triple layer paints are incredible in person, the pictures don’t do it justice.

I had the Wraith for about 5 months and put 2500 miles on it. Sold it for $6k more than I paid for it and the buyer allowed the trade to be done through the dealer so I saved $14k on sales tax for the 458 too. Absolutely loved the Wriaith, will be looking for a Black Badge Dawn in the future when prices come down a bit more. Black Badge Ghosts are already there.

Will be almost impossible to find that exact spec, that color is pretty rare on a 458 in the first place. It took me almost 3 years to find this one, it’s incredible how many 458’s just simply are not good specs at all. Then most are way overpriced, on other side of country, high mileage, etc.

They really did. I was only able to trade it as a pass-through transaction because my buyer had a dealer’s license. The car was also on consignment and I made a lowball offer that I didn’t expect them to take. They said no at first but the sales guy did an amazing job and got the seller to accept my offer. Got it for $40k under the original list price and $20k less than their current asking when I called about it. Couldn’t pass it up.

It’s CPO so not gonna touch the springs as they can void the warranty. They won’t CPO a car with lowering springs. I remember seeing someone’s YouTube video where their airbag went off while driving and the dealer said it was caused by the springs somehow. Crazy.

I’ve been lusting after a 458 since the first time I saw one and regretted not buying one pre-covid when you could get a good one for 150-160k. It’s not cheap but it will still be worth every penny.

That one was in the UK. Doesn't matter really, I won't be having $250K anytime soon. I've done ok in my life, but I'm not ashamed to admit that Ferrari's are a bit beyond my reach, and probably always will be.

You can still get a decent higher mileage 458 for 160-180k, it may not be as far out of reach as you think. I’ve spent years “trading up”. You can look at my post history here. My last e92 was around 7 years ago. Moved on to a 911 after that and have been driving and flipping cars mostly for profit ever since. Porsche and Ferrari have been very good to me with amazing resale on the right cars.

I’ve probably had 25 cars since then and made around $80k or so driving them. Covid helped that but the principles are still the same. Buy rare desirable specs in great condition at the right price and the demand will be high when it’s time to sell. I do spend a lot of time researching and scouring all corners of the internet to find the right car but I enjoy the unicorn hunt, it’s part of the fun.

You can also a get an FF for 110-150k, F430 for 100-150k, 360 for 70-120k. They’re all awesome cars to drive.

I think my issue is that it's my dream car and I'm unwilling to settle when I get it, so it has to be the right color/interior/etc. Some things can be changed, like the caliper and wheel color, I'm good with that, but it's going to have to be one of 2 blues Ferrari made the car in, and I'm not about to tackle changing tan interior to black.

I own both my Exige and M2, and I have to believe the combo is worth $130, so for the spec I want I'm still quite far from the dream. It's possible, I'm not giving up, but improbable.

Anyone who has to mull the purchase price of a Ferrari needs to consider the astonishing service costs. You need "i don't give a fuck" money IMHO.

Totally. I adore both of my cars, which is why it would be very difficult for me to give them up for the unknown of a 458. Maybe in another life.

What astonishing service costs are you referring to? Engine out services haven't been required since the 355 which was 25 years ago. An oil change is $450 at an indy shop once a year. Some brake fluid and filters another few hundred bucks. Yes, parts are expensive if something big breaks, but I wouldn't describe the servicing costs of any modern Ferrari as "astonishing" and even the 355 only needs the engine-out service every 5 years. There's a number of 458's out there with over 100k miles on them. If you have $20k in reserve for repairs just in case you should be fine with just about any of them. If it's a major concern, get a car under CPO warranty so you don't have to worry about the big ticket items.

I didn't want to settle either which is why it took so long to find the right car. You'll commonly see people on Fchat that said it took them 1-2 years to find the right car. One of the best ways to find what you're after is posting a WTB listing on Fchat or the 458 owners group on FB with what you're looking for, people may own or know of off-market cars that match. You may also get a better price than paying retail if the owner isn't 100% in tune with the market. I had a couple people offer me cars at $200k that would have retailed for $220-230k.

If your cars are paid off and you have $130k in actual equity that is huge. You can always get a loan for the rest. I've been using a HELOC for several years and just taking advantage of promo interest rates, paying the interest and not paying off any principal since I put down a big chunk in the first place. My first FF I got 1.99% on a HELOC for 12 months, bought the car with all of it, paid $180/month in interest, sold the car for $50k profit during Covid after paying around $1800 in interest. Obviously rates are higher now but if you can get something like a 6-7% promo rate it's not bad. If I have $130k cash getting 5% in a savings account and I'm paying 6% interest, I'm only effectively paying 1% on that amount. Current "normal" HELOC rates are around 8.25-9.5% right now. I have no other car payments and a low mortgage payment so I just look at the interest as my rental fee and whatever happens to the value I deal with at the end. Might go up, might go down, but it's not like a 458 is going down $50k in one year. The Exotic Car Hacks guy on youtube has very good info and knows his stuff even if he's a bit arrogant, he's very good at picking top tier specs that hold value well.

You will never regret buying a Ferrari even if only owning it for a few months or a year as long as you can afford it. They are amazing cars to drive, a Porsche or BMW will never give you the same experience. Loved the E92 M3, have loved every 911 I've had, but they're not even in the same league when it comes to the feel and excitement of driving a Ferrari.

I never really look until I'm ready to buy something. I have to think about it more, and for sure drive a 458 before I get serious.

I'm pretty sure I can get that out of them, and they are long since paid off. I hate interest, so I piss and moan any time I have to get a loan for anything, then hustle my ass off until it's paid off. I'm still mad about the $900 in interest I paid on the M2.

I'm going to agree that nothing else gives that Ferrari feel, but I'm not sure the experience beats the combination of the Exige/M2 to the level of the difference in price.

I'll have to do a more detailed study on it.

You only live once and can't take the money with you when you're dead, I regret nothing. I also probably have a bit of a different view than most people since I play poker a few nights a week and winning or losing $1000-2000 is just a normal day so paying $500-1000/month in interest to own a sweet exotic doesn't bother me at all, I just look at it as a night of poker money. I have no kids, no other car payments and a very low mortgage payment so that helps. To each their own though.

I'd say the value upside potential of a 458 is significantly better than the near-guaranteed annual depreciation of the other two cars. Maybe the Exige holds value well, I know nothing about their market so I can't really say but for me the most expensive cars I've had cost me the least and made me the most. Just need to do your research, get the right car for the right price, enjoy it for a while, then sell it for what you paid or more. Easy right? lol
