That's what he's saying and that's what I'm expecting to see but I don't actually know anything.

I take my statement back. Doesn't matter how this looks, just get this car, if you can. Might be the last pure ICE M car.

It does matter when you are buying a car that you love or fall in love with besides the engine, tech and stuff. Visual appeal is a must as well as the rest at least for me anyway.

I was really excited to see it. Wanted to love it. Left a little disappointed. To be fair, it was in a small area so you couldn't stand very far back to look at it from all angles at distance. Other colors might also look better.
Really appreciate your honest candor. If I don't like its design I will get something else and it won't be a BMW. Maybe they'll update it for the LCI model, but that's a ways off. Really a shame, because I'm not the only one that feels this way.

Very sad if it ends up being true. In which case I tend to agree with your statement. Personally I'm not sure I can pull the trigger on this type of car (fun car, purely for enjoyment) if it doesn't put a smile on my face walking up to it. The visual attraction is part of the enjoyment.

For me, after walking out of the G87 M2 viewing area, this frozen gray M3 with gold wheels (maybe minus some of the M Performance CF parts) and the white M2 CS I posted earlier were more visually appealing. Again, time will tell with more exposure, different colors, etc.

You're welcome. I felt like they may have been shooting for a 911 GT2 RS look with the front (and an older design I can't put my finger on). Fender flares also felt a little more boxy vs sculpted. Not a bad thing, but consistent with the overall design feel.

This may sound crazy, but the M3/M4 style grill might have actually worked well on the G87 M2. The M2 has always had a shorter, less raked look. A taller M3/M4 type grill could have worked if done right. Impossible to know without actually seeing it.

That said, if the G87 M2 had something resembling an M8 front end, I'd be asking my dealer to take a deposit. Not that the M8 is the pinnacle of design, or is a great fit for the G87 design, but at this point I'm not looking for great designs from BMW, just design that don't give me reasons to not like them. Bar has dropped I guess. Sigh.

For the record, I'm a big fan of the M2. Part of the reason I was so excited when they told us we could see it. I still want to fall in love, but first impressions can be tough to break.

Funny, I always felt the overall M8 design would make a great template for the M2. Just shrink it down to M2 size and take my money BMW, even though it does resemble the Ford Mustang. Regardless, I was really on the fence with the G42 design language until I saw one in person. I own one now and will be trading it in for the G87 but the look of the G42 is much more attractive and sporty in person than the F22 so hoping for the same in regards to the G87 over the F87

I feel your lack of enthusiasm. 😌

The fact the M2 is the only entry-level BMW with a manual option the only thing that still keeps me tethered to the brand, it's a shame it's not going to look the part, as the F87 instantly did.

If it wasn't for the M2, I would look towards a Supra or maybe even a E or CLS Mercedes.. Say what you want about MB, all their vehicle still give off a stately appearance and hovers within BMW's price range.

There was some talk in an earlier thread from SCOTT26 that BMW was putting some styling touches from the original E30 M3 design which definitely has that boxy design feel, especially from the side profile. We also heard that it will have some design elements from the 2002 Hommage which is also a boxy design.Too bad they couldn’t just make it look more like the Hommage.

Get that, which is why my first statement. We are going through end of an era. So drastic decisions may have to be for some.

How's the small MB cars manual roasta looking?

I just of course but I'm not sure MB even make a manual anything anymore…except a very expensive pedal bike my Instagram keep trying to get me into.

To comment all recent comments, for me too, hmm it is looking a bit 'meh' at the moment. The rear photo isn't making the most of the flared arches I hope, but most worrying are peoples comments who've seen it.

BMW this is what happens when you hype something too much!

I still have faith it will be a great car. Will it have Individual paint from early on at the Mexico plant?

I am well aware, I was speaking in hypotheticals, incase I decide to forgoing the manual option altogether and just get something palatable and classy. Just stating that they can still make elegant looking vehicles, sans the manual option.

OK, after seeing the recent first drives I take back my initial thoughts from shitty pics. The car looks amazing, even under the wrap. I love BMW art cars and really appreciated that they made it look like one while still keep some aspects hidden. Really clever.

Anyway, guess who's getting a G87?

I'm lovin it too! Maybe bc it's camo'd but the rear light spacing doesn't look all that out of proportion since the overall car is so much wider. Im pumped now and cant wait
