But the Lotus being 300kg or so lighter doesn't need the G87's torque not to mention it will steer better & likely ride better (suspension not having to control all that extra mass), corner and stop better.
I'm a little surprised more people aren't upset over the G87's significant weight increase, for me it's the worst thing about the car. Yes for normal commuter driving it won't make a difference but get on some tight twisty roads it won't be as nimble and will chew up tyres. |

assume you read that my post was in response to StickyPickie posting that he wasn't buying the (Lotus) Emira because it's performance won't match the G87? Preferring a G87 over the Emira is fine but thinking it's the better performance car is ignoring fact.

I would say to compare the M2 with a Lotus is not exactly right. Lotus is more of a race car you can drive on streets, while the M2 is more a street sport car you can use to track … its clear it will never reach an Exige performances but it can come closer with advanced competition suspensions (e.g.KW3) and break pads (Endless) for example … To me it seems that BMW has positioned even more the G87 as a baby GT … while claiming high performances on track. Despite the really shame design of the G series (and I think the new M2 faces the high criticisms from frustrated M fans still because of the catastrophic M3/4 grills), the M2 G87 is not looking that bad, the S58 is a serious engine that we all dream off and it will potentially offer a good base for a radical street sport cars to battle Porsches and other true sport cars like Lotus … which you would probably not do with AMG C classes or RS3… I still keep some reserve on few issues like the curved screen that is non sense in a sport car, and how we will be able to configure the car and options other than fancy performances carbon parts to make it a serious player on track … For the price tag, we know it will increase by 20% at least vs the F87 … like RS3 prices that have pretty much gone up the same … Last edited by Al1969; 10-02-2022 at 05:04 AM.. |

So it's highly unlikely we're ever going to see it offered on m2 Not sure if that's 100% true but it sounds logical

Don't know enough about the difference in fitment between the B58 vs S58 to have an informed opinion on that. Just that they managed to give the M240i xDrive, so unless the S58 is a lot tighter in the engine bay I don't see why they can't do the same for the G87.
