Great race, McLaren aren’t being ruthless enough to win this if they aren’t careful it’s too close for this you before me rubbish. If they want to get the constructors they need to be biased to one driver and get the other to support them plain and simply now.
As for the rest, shame for Russell that first corner race wrecked his race, Lewis was in no man’s land. Red Bull, well they are a bit broken aren’t they, car just not working and importantly they just don’t know why. Helmut said in an interview after the race they are missing the experience of Newey to understand the issue and point at a solution. Lots of expertise in the team but you have to make mistakes to know how to solve problems. Outstanding drive by Leclerc to make the tyres last like that well played him and the gamble worked out at Monza what better race to do it at driving a Ferrari. |

No I'm not. I'm probably the guy here that's most irritated about McLaren being too soft and incompetent gettting the points that are for grabs and they need.
Just read my posts. But I'm certainly not a mcLaren fan (well...I'm not a Zac Brown fan, that's mainly it because what he says and has said in the past). (I used to be a big mcLaren fan in the 80's and 90's) I want to see racing perfection at every team. A team and driver is only worth a wdc or wcc if/when they did their best. And now, McLaren (well, Lando at least and the team backup he deserves) certainly isn't doing his. And Max...his biggest problem is that his car is just trash beyond belief.

Yeah . MAX got more help from the McLaren Team than from his own teammate Checo .
I still don't get it how much the McLaren strategy failed again ... Piastri's onboard radio : Yes buddy .The papaya race is open and you can race. #PapayaIdiots !

It's Zakary Brown saying they can drive without team orders, very surprised from the American at that and PIA needs no more than that.

We’ll see if PIA can sustain this success by right now from the performance, it’s hard not to say he’s really McLaren’s number 1 driver. That pass on Lap 1 was driving perfection - definitely caught Lando off guard.

I like Oscar a lot but he is also the same guy who was a distant 20+ seconds behind Lando at Zandvoort and who said today that a one stop couldn't work. He's got a ton of talent but you can't put the No. 1 crown on him yet...

Been chewing this over since the race this morning. Lando did get off the line pretty well so honestly didn’t screw up his launch this time and got to the crucial turn 1 in the lead. His real error was not anticipating Oscar making such a ballsy move on just a few turns later. He clearly got caught out by that move to such an extent that Charles snuck through and….well that was that for his race. Obviously a lot of if’s and buts that followed, but that turn 4 overtake was the whole race I think.
Rewind the clock a couple of rounds. Lando ultimately acceded to his team-driven “hand the W to Oscar” move in Hungary, bargaining over the radio for some time before decided to do “the team thing” and follow orders. The question if I’m Lando is “when is the pay-back coming?”. “This is not the way to win a world championship” was the pressure from the team radio, but what if Lando grabbing Hungary from Oscar was actually the way to win the championship. Hmmmm. It seems that McLaren is really fumbling this but leaving things as ambiguous as possible while saying “OK boys, just don’t crash” and calling it papaya-rules (cringe). Lando seemingly is expecting Oscar to play nice, but then after his corner 1 move, nearly taking out George, it’s pretty clear to the outside observer that playing nice was not on Oscar’s mind today. He could have played a defensive #2 drive like Sainz did for Ferrari, kept LeClerc at bay, and maybe McLaren get the P1/2 finish they wanted. At the same time, Oscar is receiving a clear signal “hey, it’s all fair to go for it if you don’t crash him out” which is all he needed to decide that today was his day to stamp his mark on things. All in all, I’m pushing this situation more on McLaren leadership now than Lando, but Lando has shown naivety this weekend that will sting and possibly put him on the back foot in what’s shaping up to be another classic F1 psychological team-mate battle. This post race interview with them is a great example; when asked about whether McLaren should institute team orders to favor Lando - Lando blathers on for a ridiculous/embarrassing amount of time, while Oscar has no comment. https://www.threads.net/@fray_f1/pos...yltSuyK6daEG3w If Zak Brown is trying to see which driver wins out, he’s handed the momentum to Oscar this weekend, and Oscar gratefully and skillfully took advantage of that - as a good racer should. This is going to be a popcorn-worthy second half of the season. Last edited by RichardInCA; 09-02-2024 at 01:33 AM.. |

Oscar is just following team orders "you guys can race". Obviously the team does not want to win the WDC, they see it as Max's trophy. Every press conference, team order, strategy and decision points to that.

Charlies win and Lando's 3rd could be the WDC lifeline for MAX in his now hillbilly 20 with 8 races to go. The Constructors lead is crumbling by the minute though.

Told you yesterday Oscar would take him at the start. I’ve always thought he has a touch of Niki Lauda about him, even slightly looks like him and has that dead pan response. The way he has zero celebration with a podium place that isn’t 1st. Lando can drive the fastest lap but Oscar is the racer. He’s still super young too. Definitely a guy to watch.
Great race. Can’t believe Ferrari won on strategy. Well, not them really it was Charles. Superb job. He’d had the tyres on long enough to know they go off but come back just enough. What a great season. |

But the main difference is inbetween the ears. PIA is an egocentric, oppertunistic racer that doesn't only grab every chance he gets, he tries to enforce those chances. And pretty much all WDC's in the past have that trait. They don't give a sh!t about anyone else on the track. Schumacher, Senna, Hamilton, Alonso, Rosberg, Vettel, Max, they're all like that. This is also why if they have a teammate with the same attitude, they won't become friends. Why do both Alonso and Rosberg hate Hammy's guts? Or Webber hating Vettel, probably the most extreme case Coming up to that chicane, if NOR was 2nd he'd probably thought: "Better not try it at the chicane, that could be dangerous if he doesn't see me. If we crash both that would be so bad for the team. Better try it on the straight next round". PIA only thinks one thing: "I'm going on the outside in the chicane. Lando'll never expect that!" And how's this for a thought: the gap between NOR and PIA is smaller (44 points) than the gap between NOR and VER (62 points). What are the chances of PIA finishing ahead of NOR in the WDC at the end of the year? 8 races to go, so 5,5 points per race....I think this is something PIA is seriously considering.
