7/13/22 - Contacted local dealer. Was told I was "sliding into an allotment" they have for a late August build.
8/19/22 - I asked to make a change to my current build. CA made the mistake of sending me a copy of the build sheet. Build sheet shows I am at status 047 and really don't have an allocation at all. Another CA at the dealer slips up and tells me I have 6 others in front of me and it could be 3-4 months until I get an allocation.
8/20/22 - Blood finally not boiling anymore. I start calling every BMW dealer within a reasonable distance from SLC. CA at the North Scottsdale dealership looked up all Western US dealers with allotments. Stevens Creek in Santa Clara has 6 available.
8/20/22 - I get an allotment for a week 42 build (status 111) and place a deposit. I was able to edit the build to my specs.
9/14/22 - Status 112 / Order scheduled for Production
10/07/22 - Status 150 / Production Started
10/17/22 - Status 151 / Body Shop Started
10/17/22 - Status 152 / Paint Shop Started
10/17/22 - Status 153 / Assembly Started
10/18/22 - Status 154 / Assembly in Process
10/18/22 - Status 155 / Quality check
10/19/22 - Status 160 / Final Assembly

An update from my current location: Romania (here to hang with Vlad, obviously).

I hit status 165 (Ready for Transport) a few days ago. Now comes the long wait until it's loaded on boat to come to Oxnard. I'm patiently waiting...sorta.

Did you get your VIN? I'm supposed to be week 46 but don't have a VIN yet.

I was talking with my CA today and still no allocation for me.
He don't expect to have one until January.

The wait will be sooo long...

It's actually maybe good news as the UK cars go to Bremerhaven first then onto Southampton. Strange but just the way BMW do the logistics.

For those of us who had cars on the Grand Champion going to the East Coast:

It was unloaded over the weekend in Baltimore. It should be a couple of days at the VPC (assuming no work is needed), then shipped to wherever. The actual shipping doesn't take much time — the Genius agent I talked to said it would just be a day — most of the time now is just getting all the inspections done at the VPC.

You don't get a VIN assigned until the car is built

I asked my CA since (as it's already been answered) you don't get your VIN until the car is built.

They typically assign the VIN 1-2 weeks before your production date. My VIN got assigned 5 days before the estimated production date.

Confirmed my car was released to the carrier (west coast), ETA is this weekend. Still at port status though so must not have been picked up yet.

I wanted to have the perfomance delivery for my vehicle and I live in NY. Im not sure about the route the ships usually take but would anyone know if having it delivered in South Carolina would make it a shorter or longer voyage?

I ordered my first BMW a couple of weeks ago! It's in 112 status and I have a production number. Genius says it's going into production w/c November 21st. How long does it typically take from starting production to being delivered? I'm in California.

Depands on the vessel schedule . In my case was 5 weeks. I would say 5-8 weeks.

Cars finally gone to status 195 / port of destination - Southampton (although I don't believe this bit because I'm sure even UK cars go to Bremerhaven first), but at least it's now on its way!

It has been great pleasure tracking progress with everyone else!!!

• First driving impression is that it has slightly softer suspension on comfort setting than my 2016 F22 m235xi, which I liked. So going over speed bumps, car is less jumpy.

• I also like ID8 and all the features it comes with, including Carplay. I don't mind the temp button on the screen. It is actually within my peripheral view so that I can touch it w/o taking my eyes off the road as some worried.

Lastly, contributing to the thread by finalizing my timeline for reference below. Unofficial progress are in [brackets].
I feel very lucky to have a short overall process, where my car finished production literally just in time to catch the Grand Legacy, so minimal time was spent in status 165, Ready for Transport.

[Sept 02 22: started contacting dealers]
Sept 07 22: Order Placed (dealer modified a pre-existing allocation w/ prod #). Status 112 / scheduled for production on myBMWOptions reflected on myBMW same day.
Sept 08 22: myBMW moved back to 'order received'. Status 105 / Build Week 41 according to Dealer
Sept 23 22: "Scheduled for Production" ("illum M trim" was added to added options)
Sept 26 22: “Production begins” status 150, VIN assigned
Sept 29 22: status 150. Prod date Oct 05 22 (wk 40)
Oct 04 22: status 153. Entering assembly line.
Oct 05 22: status 155. Quality check. Prod date Oct 06 22.
Oct 06 22: status 160. Final assembly.
Oct 09 22: status 165. Ready for transport (to port)
Oct 13 22: status 195. In transit (on Grand Legacy, Departed:Oct 12, 22 Lazaro Cardenas, Mx)

Still baffled on how allocations are given out by bmw. I placed an order in Feb lol. Only on status 165 .
