So you group your friends by what they drink. You're lucky brother, my friends drink anything. But this afternoon it's only me and the most cloudless sky that I have seen in ages. Goslings rum, Galway Pipe Port and Blue Stilton cheese, does it get better than this?!

I tried the Dalmore 12yr and was super unimpressed. Thinking about a bottle of Dimple Pinch next.

It was an incredibly smooth "extra" anejo tequila called Don Julio Real. The flavor profile was very pleasing but also pretty subtle for as much as the bottle costs. It was not much better than a few of the other bottles that were in the photo priced closer to $100, but as with anything, the quality per price starts declining at some point and the cork stopper on the REAL weighed a solid 2-3 lbs easily. The bottle is definitely a show piece.

Yeah after hearing the name, I recall reading about it. Don Julio Reposado is my go to everyday Tequila. I keep at least one or two bottles on hand.
My personal favorite Tequila is Clase Azul. Delicioso! So smooth, sweet and flavorful.

This label needs no introduction around here. I thought that I would get a bottle for myself to see what all the fuss is about. The smell and flavours are very intense for an Irish, but I like it....a lot.

I prefer rye whiskey and currently like Templeton Rye, The Good Stuff. Can only find the 4 and 6 year ones around here. Actually preferred the 4 year over the 6 year.

Any rye drinkers on here? Suggestions?

Rittenhouse is my everyday go-to for cocktails but is good by itself too. Bulleit Rye is a high mashbill rye that I like mixed and straight as well. Both of these options are fairly inexpensive. If you can find it, High West A Midwinter Night's Dram is very good, considerably more expensive than the others though.

Thank you for the suggestions. I have been looking for Rittenhouse as I have heard good things about it. I have had Bulleit Rye and it used to be my choice prior to trying Templeton. I also like Redemtion Rye.

High West A Midwinter Night's Dram, that is quite the name. lol

I do like the suggestions and it will give me something to look for or ask the local store if they can get it.

There was a post in this thread a while back with some very good info on rye versions that is worth digging out. Many brands source from the same main distillery, then age or bottle into their own variety and it listed a who's who of that so you don't duplicate. I have had Ri before, but didn't think it was as good as Bulleit and it was more expensive. Haven't gotten round to trying Sazerac or Rittenhouse but they are on my 'interest list'.

Dalmore is a fairly neutral or 'refined' scotch, personally I put it into the "MOR"category (i.e. smooth and unoffensive, like a higher quality blend). It has been ages since I had any, but IIRC Dimple is a fairly typical smooth blend. If you weren't impressed w/ the Dalmore, you probably won't be any more into the Pinch. I'd try looking at other regions to see what does light you up.

That’s a great choice, it should treat you right. If you like it, look for the 12yr Cask Strength (CS), it’s even better. I put the 12yr CS over the 15yr RedBreast.

Cheers!
