Also, does anyone know if other options outside of carbon package are causing the major delays like this? |

The carbon package has been the primary cause of the delays I've seen posted about here over the past 6+ months or so. A few port installed options appear to cause some delays, but those seem to be pretty buyer specific. Hope that helps!

Thanks! Yeah, I think I saw that the carbon fiber steering wheel was giving someone else problems with delays, but you're right: mostly I'm seeing the carbon package is the biggest one.

Yeah that sounds about right, i got myself on the waitlist they had for the m2 back in Jan/Feb of 2023. Ended up with an allocation and putting down the deposit at the end of July.

I wish I had been thinking about my options back then. Buying a car, and even considering the G87 wasn't really on my radar until much more recently, and of course, I'm behind everyone else who had already come to the same conclusion much earlier than I did! |

Sold the 135i yesterday, and what a fun car that was. Now I'm F5ing the status on my M2 a few more times a day lol. Speaking of, does anyone have a rough idea of the average amount of time it takes to move on from RFT? |

I think I saw two different threads that are tracking build times/dates based on build week that has some good info. That would be the best bet for current information. I also saw Greg from the pacific northwest had built a thread with a spreadsheet with all of that information for people who had ordered a while back. I think he is on the tail end of that information though, so not sure if that would be as helpful to us currently, since as you mentioned, timelines have changed since even a little while back. |

Guessing they had that waitlist even before it was officially out. |

Yeah, I think that's true. I think my CA had mentioned something about the list before it was out a while back, but I wasn't really paying too much attention to that tidbit of info, since at the time, I wasn't really "in the market".

So there's the waitlist and what they tell you, and then there is what actually happens in reality. I was not on the waiting list at the dealer that I got my allocation from. When I checked in with them in early November they said there was about a year wait. After that feedback I decided to stick with my other dealer where I was #7 on the list with an ETA of 6 to 10 months before getting a car. Then 3 weeks later my CA texted saying a spot opened up and it was mine if I wanted it despite not even being on their list. I think there is some wild wild west action happening when someone backs out of their spot. I think CA's check their rolodex and try to find the first person that will say yes so they can sell a car and pump up their numbers. What about the next people on the list waiting? What about the people that have deposits in expecting to get the call instead of me? Lesson learned from me is just be really really persistent so that the CA thinks of you first when a spot opens up.

I would think it just goes to the next person, but I've actually seen this sort of thing happen with my nearest dealer as well. |

I sometimes did get calls about cars in that someone backed out about, and i believe those dont follow the list, just whoever seems to bite first. I also wouldn’t underestimate the amount of people dropping from the list due to these delays and finding something else. At the time my CA said people were dropping out due to recession fears too. |

Probably a magnified version of the current/recent recession fears. |
