If BMW didn't have to create such a controversial design they wouldn't have to be such jerks and get involved in something that's really none of their business just because they're fearful it might not sell And one of the culprit moderators doesn't even own a BMW The reason we don't get screwed with in the M2 forums has a lot to do with our moderator

Wouldn't mind a G42 M240i in my garage! Really really liked the F22 M240i with M-performance LSD. Miss you red!

I do like it! It has a long bonnet, has a low stance, broad wheel base and very good premium technology. in EU it even is very good priced! Compared to a M135i, this real bmw M240i is only about 10% more.

They tried their best this time around by adding aluminum hood, fenders, control arms and a few other suspension parts standard but there is only so much they could do, without resorting to more exotic materials i.e. costly; such as a carbon fiber core like on the i3 & 7 Series, retain all required modern day safety equipment, before the price tag becomes astronomical and out of the reach of their target demographics.
Keep in mind to that this vehicle model's MSRP is suppose to hover around 38 - 55k, it's been like this since "E" generation. However, adjusted for inflation, $50,000 in 2008 is considered 63k today. Manufacturers have the daunting task of keeping up with drop value of the money and yet still maintain an MSRP under 50k. There is always a rhyme behind the reason, so, I always give it a little thought before I immediately lean towards a negative assumption. Weight can be reduced but at what cost: |

Couldn't care less anymore, be thankful we got another straight six ICE model.
There won't be another after this models life cycle. And I highly doubt the electric versions will be lighter unless they sacrifice range in the performance range or go full retard with carbon. |

I certainly am, weight reduction is just not important to BMW.
Anyone curious read about how Mazda approaches weight management. 2021 MAZDA MX-5 RF: 2460 lbs.

That 181 hp wouldn't keep me entertained even at the lighter weight. You're talking 13.8 lbs/hp vs 10 lbs/hp on the "heavy" M240i xDrive. If you want a modern turbo 6 cylinder coupe that is refined, powerful and capable including AWD, it's not gonna weigh 3200 lbs unless it costs twice as much. |

In my opinion the actual 2 Series is one of the most beautiful BMW's as they kept the grill dimensions, the Hofmeister kink, the DNA of the Corona Rings that look excellent in this conservative yet elegant headlights. A balanced design overall. *In the F22, the middle design line goes through the handle flowing and connecting all the elements including the handle and front fender the boomerang. The new one has the handle slapped in there, just to make sure you have one. *In the old one the door is bulked and flows with the rear fender while in the new one it does not. *The F22 bottom contains another elegant line that flows through and which gives an overall look that is connected with the line described by the middle bulge of the body forcing the light to give you a reflection line in any angle of the car. (see pic 2) In the new car the black bottom looks like was glued later by some ricer guy. * In the old one the bottom line is arched up and connected with the rear spoiler line showing continuity and an aerodynamic kinetic design that inspires movement and airflow. In the new one the bottom line doesn't even flow with the rear bumper line. *The F22 hood was much more balanced and perfectly integrated with the vehicle as a whole, while the new bonet looks longer and like it doesn't belong in there, or atleast id doesn’t scream “compact” or small and nimble... * The vertical line in the front fender on the new one looks not only odd but out of place. Let's not mention the terrible placement right beside the arch of the fender where the two elements just won't work together! It looks like an accident dent or something. A vertical line thrown under an horizontal one and right beside a curved one? WTF is that? * Actually, while I am looking at this car in this OFFICIAL pictures, I don't have the feeling that I am seeing a vehicle that was designed like that, but rather an odd repaired vehicle. The taillights are just horrendous and the front triangles are not far either. I am in the opinion that we can’t even falk about a design language but rather a mix of elements. It looks quite generic otherwise with nothing that will awe the audience. They could do a much better job especially when they had already a beautiful predecessor. At least they kept the kidneys to a decent size.... Just looking at the reflections of both cars you can already see the attention to detail between the two. The interior looks better and the door panels are really nice. Technically however, sounds really good on the paper and I like the specs. Last edited by Teutonic; 07-08-2021 at 01:36 AM.. |

I actually really like the front. And that purple is downright gorgeous. I also like that you can get a LSD on the 4 cyl model. No manual and too much weight for me though, so I don’t think I’ll be jumping back into the BMW fold for a drivers car. Probably the new Toyota GR86 for me, but I’ll likely drive the new 2 just to see, especially if I can find one with the diff. |

I love the new purple, but I'm really not a fan of what they did to the lights, both front and rear. Looks really weird without the angel eyes DRLs, and the rear lights somehow look cheap in my eyes.

In the goodwood video they show an M240i with red calipers instead of blue ones...
Does anyone know if there will be an option to choose blue and red? Can't seem to find that at all in the configurator. Last edited by bmwloverm2; 07-08-2021 at 07:49 AM.. |
