The "M" division of BMW is the performance division, so the the question (when seeing an M badge added by BMW themselves) is always; did the M badge accompany performance enhancements. And if you can say yes to that, then they didn't just slap a badge on something, they enhanced the performance.

I'm not a BMW fanboi, so I can't speak for all models, but the 2020 M340i DCT I drove as a loaner would best my M2 on the highway, so IMO it's worthy of an M badge.

This thread is NOT about m factory applied M badges.

Automatic. Same thing really, vs the manual. And to look a the think you wouldn't think it'd walk my M2 on the highway, but I assure you it would.

I know what the thread is about, I was responding to the idea that BMW just slaps an M onto anything...but they don't.

I only point it out because it's not a DCT. The m340i a torque converter automatic. The M2 auto is, on the other hand, a DCT. Just a minor correction.

My current daily is a 2020 m340i, and yeah...it's a rocket.

Right, I was just meaning that it shifts lightning fast compared to the 6MT, and the B58 (I think that's what it has), is just fantastic.

If that was the case; then the 6 series sales would be demonic.

Have I become what I hate most? What’s the crowd say here?
I have done exactly the same thing mostly because I don't like the chrome on the M, chrome on plastic makes me cringe a bit.
I don't think I'm a poser

I'm guilty of this as well. I replaced the chrome F-Sport badges on the IS with the black RC-F badges. I debadged everything else, but the fender badges had the holes in the fender, so I had to have something there to cover the holes.

This saddens me…. Deeply…

If you're going to add a badge or badges then at least try to make it believable instead of just throwing s*** on the car.

Changed the badges on the wheels with ebay ones, oem were corroded, looks ok but curious how long they will last.

They just don't stay on as well as they have half the amount of clips holding them on. One track day and they will fall off. Just remove them if you're running the wheels hot.
I noticed that they are a bit looser than the original ones. Not going to do track days so hopefully they will stay in place
