WOW! decisions decisions, so many good cars coming out...also refreshing to hear continued validation and support for N/A engines at least in the GT models.

Is it just me, or does this guy seem to answer the questions a lot more directly than BMW execs in interviews? A few marketing lessons to be learned here, IMO

I don't get it, why not offering it with PDK gearbox. The GTx designations for Porsche models are traditionally reserved for track oriented models, meaning everything is optimized for track driving experience. And modern DCT gearbox is much better for such driving styles. And it really won't cause that much more as the chassis and engine electronics was already developed with PDK in minds. If you really want a mor envolving car to drive, why the hell are you buying a close to $100k modern luxury sports car to drive anyway? And Jesus, W
When did driving a manual car becomes a part of the dick measuring contest. Go get a vintage sports car or lotus with no power steering and vacuum assisted brakes. Hell, go with two wheels if you really want a challenge.

Nice car. But isn't the Vette Z06 price just a bit more?

I think it has a lot to do with this car will be raced in European GT4 series. Automated gearboxes are not allowed in that series.

If you watch the Evo video, he does say maybe a pdk will be offered in the future. They will wait and see how the car is received. But offering both gearboxes would have been a lot more work, considering how much is changed in the drivetrain compared to the GTS. I am sure the GT4 project did not receive anywhere near the funding of the GT3 development.

No PDK probably because the performance would fall near the GT3. The Cayman is lighter than a 911 and has better weight distribution. Now with a 3.8, it's got a stronger midrange so it will be a rocket out of the corners. Porsche did well here, but they definitely left some potential on the table. Can't step on the 911's toes..

No that isn't the reason. The reason it's only manual is:
a)Porsche decided to listen costumers who wanted a GT Manual car.

b)More importantly, the cost of developing the car with both a manual and PDK tranny is too much. That's why GT3 is PDK only and GT4 manual only.

Here's hoping the price of a reasonably spec'd car is within the real of possibility for me.

Some info I took from the video;

380 hp @ 7400 rpm
310 lb ft @ 4750-6000 rpm
3.8L derived from Carrera S
Manual Transmission from Cayman GTS with some changes, (shorter gear ratio?) I know that's a big complaint on the GTS is the very tall gearing.
0-62 4.4 (which could mean 0-60 in 4.2?)
top speed 183 mph
Just under 3000 lbs curb weight

I'm wondering if redline is 7400rpm then?

There are these things the waiter hands you.
You then choose what you personally like.
It's filled with choices.

Porsche is known for underestimating.
I predict:
398 HP
0-60 sub 4

Wow. Not sure what is more perfect now, the 991 or this! As if the cayman GTS weren't one of the most desirable cars this car just took it to another level! Finally glad to see them give the cayman proper treatment although you know they are holding back A LOT.

Ring time is 7:40 which is fantastic. Porsche is certainly still Kong of the Ring. No other car with that little hp will be even close.

I just didn't see it. I thought they'd break that ratio and go "all out" per se. That was a very nice surprise.

I would pick the GT4 over a Z06 every single day of the week. I really would. The Cayman is just such a more useable car in terms of performance everyday. IMHO of course

Yes, completely agreed. But look at the pricing though. I want a GT4 bad, but I predict an M2 with no options will be $50kish. That's a solid $35k more expensive, and enough for me to go out and buy a brand new Tacoma.

I know everyone's priorities and finances are different, but this car is way out of my league. FYI, I'm going to do whatever is necessary to get an M2 into the 40s.

That's because Porsche doesn't need hype to sell cars. They sell because of the passion, and the fact that everything they produce is a benchmark that is a car at the apex of its game.

Beautiful car, sucks that the car probably won't be able to comfortably handle the garbage roads of the DC metro area to be able to handle everyday driving, especially with those 20" wheels.

Plus once you add options like...a radio and maybe a cup holder, the MSRP will balloon to $100k+

Actually, that's not true at all. I got mine built for around $87k. It's got plenty of standard equipment. Now with mark ups and what not, that'll prob be a different story

Yeah I know it was mainly me being facetious and poking fun at some of the ridiculously priced options for Porsches. All it takes is getting a trim that's high enough that it comes with a lot of standard equipment and showing restraint in the options list.

I know this car probably would be awful for daily driving around here, but I'll be dammed if I don't give it a look once my lease is up.

I haven't heard too many bad things about the 991 GT3 being a horrible DD, but I also don't pay too much attention to cars that are way out of my league. I can definitely see this in my garage in probably 5-8 years though!
