The issue with flashing these cars is not that the files you are loading are restricted but that the DME is locked.

Someone should tell Alex to chime in on this; it's very interesting.

From what I understand, this is only possible due to the fact that the 2025 M2 file is not protected by a FSC. It’s also an original file signed by BMW. Therefore no DME unlock is required.

You could in theory flash the stock file from an M4 CSL to the M2, but you would end up in limp mode due to a missing FSC.

Would something like this need to be re-applied after the OTA software updates / dealer visits?

Maybe I am totally missing something but this still sounds off. What is being "modified" to update the maps for hp & torque?

Very curious about this. Why did BMW release the file unlocked? This seems contrary to everything they’ve done to prevent tuning since midway in the f8x gen. If it’s as simple as flashing on an actual BMW file this will be very appealing to a lot of owners.

I'm here for it, ESPECIALLY if they offer it at a dealer (way too wishful thinking, but who knows)

Ok, now I'm curious what is the cost to get all the CSL and 2025 ECU flashes done.

Alex contacted me, it seems since its is an OEM file it can be uploaded into the DME. The dealer if they wanted to can see it is an external flash done outside the dealer. However, it is much cheaper than a tune or a piggy back with an OEM file. Yes its not as aggressive but still a win in my book.

Some discussion on why it works specifically for the 2025 M2 XCF file being loaded on earlier models in this thread: https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=2128797,
specifically the info in this post: https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...0&postcount=31

Garage List
2011 BMW 335i  [8.40]
2024 BMW M2  [9.00]
2018 BMW 340i XDrive  [10.00]
But if the dealer can see that the vehicle was flashed outside, they could void your warranty, which would be the main reason (IMO) of going this route vs aftermarket.

Possible on both automatic and manual versions of the US 2024 m4 (and 2023/2024 European models.)

I believe an FSC block wasn’t put into place because the car remains a non comp/CS/CSL/GTS version.

Highly unlikely, but maybe they’ll release it with an update to the older cars.

Not sure all the risk and potential consequences are worth a crummy 20hp.

I’ll stand pat, don’t need another card.

I can 100% vouch for Alex@alpine. If he says it works, it works. Worked with him on my F80 quite a bit (Hi Alex! Hope you're doing well brother), wonderful to work with.
