Yes, I just call that Monday. I'm asking how I should feel about the car

Heard from my dealer this morning. They have no new info for me. I'm close to jumping ship....

If you read the repair steps, I hope you weren't expecting this to be quickly resolved. Depending on if the have the replacement parts and number of cars affected, it could taje some time.

I am just hoping they have sent the SLP plant ones that are good for upcoming builds (if not, stop sale will also be atop production).

There's a bunch of owners around these various forums discussing their cars being 'cleared' and the stop sale being removed. I'm trying to figure out whether 'my' car needs to be 'fixed' or not. That part should happen fairly quickly for a car already at the dealership, no?

Understand however I am not sure who/how the determination is being made (and in what order). If your dealership cant provide an answer, maybe reach out to NA to see if they can help or shed some insight

It is definitely a frustrating situation. There doesn't seem to be a pattern as to which cars are being tested vs others. BMW NA has no updates, my car was due to be delivered to the dealership on 6/3, and has been at the Oxnard VPC since 5/28. If it is a simple test to see if the knock sensor fails, fine, it seems to be a fairly quick test. However, there is no update, no ETA, etc.

The silence in this thread and others around the forums on this topic, and even worse, the silence from my dealer, is deafening. Please turn it down. Thanks!

PM me your VIN, I can check to see if there are any open technical campaigns on it.

Thank you Tag!!

Looks like my car lost the Knock Sensor lottery. Do I pass on this car and get on the list for something else? Z4 manual is quite appealing to me and it comes in better colors! I've got serious reservations taking delivery on an M car that will be practically disassembled prior to delivery. My experience with these things tells me there will be issues. I've got a 3-pedal backup plan, and this car was nothing more than a toy/weekender for me. I'm looking for opinions.

The SIB states they are in the process of clearing the stop from affected VINs. Although they don't go into what that means they could still be processing cars and clearing them if they don't need new knock sensors. I recommend you just stay on top of it with your dealership and if it doesn't get cleared in the coming week/s then make a decision.

For those of us with cars, how do we check to see if we have it? Will the app tell me?

I suspect they'll issue a recall at some point if you're affected.

P.S. I remember which VIN is yours, I see no technical campaigns for your car.

Have they halted production or do they have the "fix" in place for cars currently in or soon to be in production?

They’re taking a long siesta down there on AGs dime if they are. Seems highly unlikely. The SIB lists cars produced prior to 09 May IIRC.

Spoke to my CA, all he could say is that they are testing the knock sensors based on build date. My build date was 5/4 (so close to the end of the stop sale) but I am unsure where in line that would be. Already this has dragged out. Trying to stay positive.

I got word from my SA yesterday that my z4 was released from this stop sale after a “software upgrade “ is applied. I am awaiting verification that no physical repair to the car were made but from what he said there appears to have been some code that wasn’t reading the knock sensor readout correctly.

Fwiw. May not apply to everyone.

Will a case be created for every g87 produced outside the listed dates? Or only the ones BMW is suspicious of?

I am currently scheduled for production since 6/7/2023. I am concerned that this stop sale will affect my order and quality of vehicle

Why? The SIB states builds thru 09 May. You’ll be fine.
