It also dilutes the M brand a bit, even more so now that bmw is sticking the M badge on anything and everything.

By the same rationale, I'd look much more favorably on a Japanese sports car built in a Japanese factory (e.g GR Corolla).
It's just metal, plastic, rubber, glass, and tech components.
BMW have plowed through so many other artificially concocted true-believer 'M brand' gates, who still has the energy to whinge about it?

I get initial model run concerns, but otherwise it's a modern factory, using the same globally sourced bits, assembled by a combo of robots and humans, just like anywhere else.
There is no it's in the water or secret sauce magic going on. Maybe if you buy a Morgan, but ya not at scale.

I get where you're coming from but I'd argue Germans and Japanese are a lot more anal retentive and have a track record of being so, esp when it comes to manufacturing.

I suspect it will drive vastly better than it will look. The recent debut of the X7 LCI and new 7-Series has me seriously concerned about the future design direction at BMW, more so than during the Bangle era.

They already have the 3 Series being built there for the past several years. The new 2 Series is currently being made there now too. The G87 M2 won't go into production until the end of this year.

I have owned a ton of new BMWs and the German build quality can be hit or miss just like with any other manufacture, including the Japanese.

FYI, Rumor has it G01 X3 production could be relocating to Mexico. Plant Spartanburg allegedly needs to make room for other models.

It's difficult for me to get excited either way regarding where a car is built anymore. So much information out there showing that where a car is built just doesn't matter. The BMW factory with the best defect rating is in South Africa of all places.

There are some great cars built in Mexico. I would imagine the Mexican workforce knows full well what they're building here, and are quite proud to be producing the next iteration of this car with such a young but lauded history.

I'd rather see it be built in CT, though. I could more easily visit the plant & pick my car up directly at the factory. LOL

I WAS THINKING THE EXACT SAME THING! I couldn't tell if it was my eyes playing tricks or the camo working its magic on my eyeballs. But to me, it does look shorter & more proportional.

Definitely appears that way. Perhaps it's the lens of the camera because everything we've seen shows the opposite.

No one will give two sh!ts where it's built if it's a great driving car. The Z4 and the Supra are also built in Austria which last I checked isn't Germany, but maybe proximity counts?

It appears this baby M car will be a beast. On the same CLAR platform as the Supra, but instead of a B58 it'll get the S58 and also have a MT option. My only reservation is I hope it doesn't look like a pile. At least the grilles aren't grossly oversized.

Yup, you can finally make out the vents under the inner portion of the normal 2er headlights. If you zoom in you can see the camo is recessed.

It doesn't dilute the brand... M cars have already been made on other continents. All of the X M products and Z4M were made in Spartanburg.

Would this be the first M car built in Mexico?

If you had the option of a BMW built in Mexico or one built in Germany, which would you pick ?

If you're saying it wouldn't matter to you that's great, but I'd opt for a German built one, or one built at a factory known for its quality control.

In regards to dilution of the brand, I'd argue having a dedicated factory churning out M products would definitely strengthen the badge.

If you disagree, thats totally cool. That's why we are all on this forum.
