São Paulo Yellow or Voodoo Blue are strong reasons to wait for MY25 for me - I guess it’s a bit of a role of the dice hoping the 6MT stays, but it seems more likely than not.

I hope the MY25 price increase isn’t too abusive!

The MT is not going anywhere. The limiting factor to offering a MT is torque not hp. They're giving it the same hp as the G80/2 base models, but the torque remains unchanged at 406 lb-ft.

As a rule of thumb, if you see any G8x with more than 406 lb-ft of torque it will only be offered with AT. If it has 406 lb-ft it will still be offered with a MT. As an example, take a look at the M4 3.0 CSL. It's rated at 553hp and has a MT but its torque is still only 406 lb-ft.

Given that “up against the edge” of torque spec, any concerns with long term reliability?

Point heard, I think I’m going to be patient and assume it’s not going away and potentially get the color I want (blues and yellows are my fav and I don’t love MY24 offerings personally)

To summarize...
  • As previously reported MY25 G87 will get a +20 hp bump from 453hp to 473hp but it will not be designated a Competition model as some have speculated.
  • Individual colors that are coming for MY25 as previously reported by BMWBLOG here. Known colors are Grigio Telesto, Java Green and A purple shade (TBD). New standard colors for MY25 are Sao Paulo Yellow, Fire Red, Skyscraper Grey and Voodoo Blue
  • M2 CS will go into production August 2025. It will have over 500hp but only be offered with an AT.
  • The G87 will get xDrive in 2026 although it's unclear if that's the production or model year.
Will the xDrive variant be designated 'Competiton'? Your guess is as good as mine.
Thank you for this thread. After the initial pictures of the G87 posted, I gave up the #1 spot at my dealership until I could see the vehicle in person and spend some time with it to make sense of the design details with the vehicle in front of me.

I was able to do that yesterday and despite a couple issues with how the hood meets the front, I decided that I’m going to have to get one. But since I don’t spend the time here that I used to, your post was especially helpful to me.

This transmission has been running 406 for a long time, I would say there are no concerns.

Not a typo.

"We reported in the past on some of them, but today, we can add a couple more to that list: Grigio Telesto, Java Green and a purple shade. The previously reported on M2 colors are: Sao Paulo Yellow, Fire Red, Skyscraper Grey and Voodoo Blue. Of course, Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Zandvoort Blue, Brooklyn Grey and Toronto Red will continue to be offered, as well as Portimao Frozen Blue and Frozen Pure Grey."

Is there a typical cadence or timeline for BMW with order guides? I believe MY24 goes until July of 2024? If that’s the case, when is official info for MY25 typically released? (Complete speculation, I know)

The model year changeover for the G87 is August, but BMW always starts production a few weeks earlier which would put it in July. The pricing/ordering guides typically drop about 4~6 weeks before SOP.

Merino interior options other than black would be nice. But I guess that might take the M2 too far "upmarket"...

I'd be all over a purple M2 with Silverstone/Light Gray seats.

Considering the purple is going to be "individual", and probably expensive, I'll probably go with VooDoo blue.

According to the future models thread the MY25 G87 will also get...

Quote:
...cosmetic changes including new wheel options.
This is the LCI MY so that's to be expected. What's unknow is if the changes are just some updated headlights/taillights and just a new finish on the same style wheels or if there will actually be soft point changes to the exterior, i.e. revised bumpers and different wheels.

On a related note, MY25 M240i/M240ix will have the option for CF roof and will also be able to be spec'd in Skyscraper Grey and Zandvoort Blue.

My 2024 in Brooklyn Gray is “Ready for transport”. If I could get “proof” that Skyscraper will be offered in 2025, I would probably abandon this order and go for the 2025. I mentioned to my SA and she said it’s just speculation. I like BG but SSG is amazing

I don't get why they are shafting those that bought in the first 2 years by offering a power bump and more/better colors this soon. Unless the power bump is not an actual change but to actually line up with what the car had all along.

Unless they know that early adopters/buyers would always buy soon after launch and this is to attract more buyers, idk.

BMW has already publicly stated its plans to phase out base M models and make the Comp models the starting point. That would mean the current base M3/4 is going away which leaves a void. Being the M2 is an entry level model it would remain exempt from the M model lineup change. They would then be able to give it the full 473hp without stepping on its older siblings' toes. The M3/4C models are all AT but BMW will still be able to tout that if you want a MT M car, they have an M2.

...furthermore, this slots in nicely with the news from earlier this year that the G80/2 LCI xDrive will be getting a power bump too, from 503hp to 525hp. The M3/4C will be the new 'base models' and the M3/4Cx will be considered a higher model followed by all the other variants like CS, CSL, etc.

If there is going to be a CS I think that will be a car I will have to make a play for. It's as if the stars are aligning for me as that is when I would be ready to make a car purchase. Was wanting an CPO Cayman GTS 4.0 after seeing the unveiling of the G87 but a CS is too special to pass up. Especially if the cost of a CS would be similar to a 2 or 3 year old Cayman GTS 4.0. Will have to see.

Thanks as always Tag for the info!!

Going by the previous F87 CS and current G80 CS pricing, a G87 CS is not likely to be cheaper than a lightly optioned new Cayman GTS 4.0.
