Does anyone know of any sound clips of a stock B58 exhaust with one of these valve controllers? I'd like to hear a back to back comparison of 70% sport and 100% open. People say it is louder than stock, but I'm curious how much. I'd consider the SST controller, but I'd hate to pick it up and find it just doesn't offer anywhere near what I'm wanting. All the sound clips I found on YouTube are S58.

Yes, aftermarket exhaust is the way, but I'm not looking to do any hacking of the exhaust until warranty is up if I can help it.

It makes a huge difference on a cold start but when its fully warmed up i dont think the sound difference is enough to warrant the money spent, you will hear a difference on the outside and virtually no difference on the inside of the cabin with the windows shut. You do get a few more burbles with it fully open, but not a lot. I have the SST.

Thanks, I appreciate your input and I assumed the extra 20-30% valve opening wouldn't make a big difference.

Either I'll eventually say screw the warranty and go aftermarket catback, or wait until warranty is up and get something, if I keep the car past the lease period.

Doing a catback isn’t going to hurt your warranty.

Correct (besides losing warranty on that specific section you modified). I like to go to the dealership and complain about rattles, so I generally keep things stock(ish) so they can't point at other things as the culprit. Also, my car is leased, I'd need to be sure I don't need to be putting it back to stock when returning it. All depends on the dealer. That's my biggest hesitation. Also, the exhaust systems for our cars are pretty pricey considering in my old cars I use to piecemeal the system with a downpipe, x/h pipes, mufflers, and still come out to a grand or less all said and done. Spending 2k+ USD is a bit of a shock compared to what I used to pay.

I've just ordered an MPE so I'm hoping the SST will be useful with that

A downpipe reduces the backpressure on the turbo; if anything, it's better than the stock one. it's considered a warranty-friendly mod.

I am interested in your impressions of the MPE, with the SST controller. I have the SST controller on the stock exhaust currently but would like a bit more sound.

Contemplating either DP or axle back.

It may be true but would BMW see it that way?

Absolutely and that's why it's almost impossible to find a single case of voided warranty blamed on the downpipe

I agree, it is rare, but things happen. I recall a guy on a FB group with an m240 and low miles had a blown turbo. Only mod he had was a downpipe and because of that BMW refused to cover replacing his turbo. So if you are as unlucky as this guy was fully expect every dealer out there to say take a hike on getting something like a blown turbo replaced under warranty.

BMW quoted him something like 8k to fix everything. The guy went aftermarket turbo and Femto to save some money.

Like I said, very rare, for something like this to happen but it’s still a chance we all take.

The AA DP made a big change in the sound with the MPE. I'm also using the SST. I found I only need the SST to close the valve when in comfort on the highway, using cruise, get a bit of drone at the low rpm with that combo.
