Anyway back to the M2 tank size… The last thing the M2 needs is more weight and extra fuel adds unnecessary weight
But, they've used the 3-series platform, so the new one is a couple of hundred kilos heavier anyway. Another 10kgs of fuel isn't going to matter...

What, you guys don't like going to gas station every other day?

The M2's tank really needs to be in the 16-18 gallon range.

In some obscure racing situation? Maybe. But for 99.999% of how these cars get used? 5 more gallons of gas would take the tank to a c-hair over 18 gallons, which would be spectacular. 5 gallons of gas weighs about 30.5 lbs. I'd make that "sacrifice" for more range in a heartbeat.

Fare enough

I'm just not thrilled with the new 2er's weight gain so it is hard to get more excited accordingly

I think it is interesting that all 2 series will be ZF8 transmission. It will be interesting to see if the G87 will have a 6 speed option.

I don't get what is so suprising since the 3 series gets only 59L capacity but I have to admit having now lived with both, those 7 liters do make a big difference daily and at the track.

Is the S58 any more efficient than the S55?

I think it gets 6 speed and the same ZF8 as in the M3/M4 as options.

It will be interesting to see since the M3/M4 Competition only comes as a ZF8.

They might do the same i suspect. Either way gas mileage could be 22 mpg combined? I'm hopeful because range could be annoying.

They've confirmed it has 6 speed option no less than 10 times now.

The fuel capacity of the F87 is a joke. I realize that BMW doesn't care that I'm running an E30 blend, but that means my range is even lower than it was stock.

I miss my 3000gt with its 19.8 gallon tank.

That seems insane to me. Anyone who cares about a few pounds of fuel could just put less fuel in it. Anyone who wants a reasonable range could fill a larger tank and more fuel weight would be the last thing on their mind. Seems like a strange decision.

They didn't want to add anymore to the already impressive curb weight of the car, so they kept a small tank

Man. It was far from the nicest car out there, but going from dailying my old 350Z to dailying the M2 was a bit of a shock. Gas tank on the nissan was 20 gallons/75 liters. Oh sure, it got slightly worse fuel economy than the M2 with over 100 fewer horses under the hood, but man. I'm filling up ALL THE TIME with this thing. A big gas tank is never a bad thing IMHO.

My M2C would barely crack 400km, would have really liked a larger fuel tank. But I guess this is the price you pay to not have a deticated platform, they have to package this for xdrive and such on other models.

I guess the S58 gets similar MPG as the S55?

I felt like the S58 was better when cruising than the N55.

B58 was very good 700km or more with the 59liter tank but the S58 was more around 600-650km. BUT that was with the ZF8 so results with the 6MT may a bit different.

Be it an M2 or any other car the one thing I hâte de most is being always stopped to refill, I don't mind doing only 500-600km with 75-90Liter tanks but doing hardly 350-400km is just way too annoying.

I wonder if the fuel tank is just a carryover part from the previous generation, since fuel tank homologation requirements can be quite extensive, so it is cheaper for them to use a part already validated instead of designing another one.

with the 8 speed auto trans in the g87, it should yield more mileage than a 7 speed dct f87 given the gear ratios. especially in highways.
