Edit: So think Individual Paint. It's definitely something I would pay for if I liked the colour enough, but I wouldn't expect to get any extra for having same come trade in.
Trade in maybe, but second hand market individual paint can definitely fetch more money.

Certain desirable options if not ordered can actually hurt your value compared to other used examples. In Porsche GT market, carbon seats optioned cars definitely bring a higher premium.

In a Porsche - maybe. But otherwise not so much. Think of all those Corvette owners obsessing about how their car is rare. When - in fact - it's just one of many different Option combinations that they selected. So, unless they find someone with the same taste, it's worth the same as the non-optioned version.

Maybe build quality doesn't capture fully what I meant. I'm considering materials as well. No offense but the M2 just felt a little cheap to me with all of the plastic. In general, I wasn't a fan of any of the F series generation interiors, as they lacked simplicity in design and thoight it came across as confused in how they tried to blend the digital with analog. Just my opinion.

I agree with the materials not being up to par in the F87, which is where I believe the interior in all the new G series cars are holding up to their value better. I would expect the G87 to be substantially better in this department, as the G42 is more impressive for sure.

The dash material isn’t as nice in the G42 compared to my original M2.The G series cars definitely need the Sensatec dash option IMO.Hopefully they add it as an option when the G87 is released.Build quality inside and out seems very comparable between the two.The only real improvement in the G42 interior is the ambient lighting.

Yes, it is just my opinion. I've also looked at a G42 M240i xDrive in person. It's a nice car, albeit a bit too large for my taste.

What I was trying to say was, as far as build quality, my F87 is solid as a rock. No creaks, rattles or any sort of maintenance issues.

Yes, it is short of amenities, but I kind of like that. I've also never been very impressed with the G series interiors.

But again, it's just my opinion on things.

Modified both pictures (originals: ) to allow looking closer into some details: diagonal deflector inside the air curtains (replacing the stock horizontal deflector), front splitter, side mirror caps and rear wing (visible through the windscreen).

Compare with the 'M Carbon Exterior Package' of the G80 M3 / G82 M4 (code 71C).

The G87 M2 is rumored to be premiered on 12 October 2022.

Is that front splitter really going to go up the sides like that in full carbon fiber? Looks odd

Looks like they're connected. Hopefully they come separate as I've never been a fan of winglets

Looks like it's one piece to me. In all honesty, I've yet to see one M Performance part in these spy shots that appeal to me. The rear high wing, the stacked exhaust and the front splitter with built in winglets are all too gaudy for my taste.

Splitter & winglets: here's how Porsche tackled this with the 718 GT4 RS (3 plastic parts, no CF - splitters are 'consumables'):

Speaking of Porsche, I think I watched every GT3 RS review yesterday. What an amazing car.

I would not jump into any design conclusion before the camo has been peeled off. The diagonal strut in the air intake has potential to enhance the powerful impression of the front end.

Looking back at these older photos you can see how the splitter comes up from a side view

I'm really banking on this being a sub 70k, I'm looking to finally order a real sports car new one day and the P-cars with markup just are too far gone. This nearly ticks all my boxes and should be easy to obtain with a manual.

Don't get greedy BMW please!

For sure.
A 'decently-speced' RS3 or 4 Blackwing would be upper $60s USD with the abilty to skimp ~$60 or push it ~$80.
It would make sense if BMW played in that same ballpark.
