From what I gather, it doesn't seem like much of a change.. MPS4S is fine and the rear tires wear out quick anyways..

I'm Mr. Play It Safe, I replace tires before they hit half the wear bars.. On a powerful RWD vehicle with known snap oversteer, it's cheap insurance.

Nothing special about those Michelins unless one is looking for comfort...the 5S is probably more about 'green' than performance anyway lol

The old Yokohama Advan AD08R has more dry grip (wet grip over standing water is not as good I admit) than the 4S and now the AD09 is out and has even more dry and wet grip (especially wet)

The street legal Advan A052 has tons more dry grip than the 4S/5S/6S.....whatever they called it

The Bridgestone Potenza RE71RS will now be sold in the US so even more performance tyre selection for the M2 to go with

These are M Performance wheels on the G80/2/3 currently as you all probably know, but maybe standard on the M2.

*sorry poochie. Couldn't resist. Aside from the apprehension I have for the rear look of the car (tbd), those calipers have been my biggest gripe thus far.

The explanation is really simple. The decision to go with an electric parking brake forced this choice. That is the only caliper BMW makes which incorporates an e-brake function, simple as that.

Exotic high end cars which have electric parking brakes have used other solutions, like an additional mini-caliper on the rear wheel just for that function only. I don’t know that there is any fixed-caliper design out there with an incorporated electric parking brake.

FYI, The PS5 is already out unlike the PS5S. There is a difference just as there is from the less expensive PS4 vs PS4S.

Comparing any of the Michelin standard range tires with the OE they develop with BMW can be misleading. The BMW one is quite a different thing altogether:

Yes, ultimately a multi piston fixed caliper can generate more brake force in theory but from what I can tell the bmw floating caliper design can deliver the brake force that is actually needed for these cars performance

What bmw should have done is add a cover that makes it look like a giant fixed caliper…

80% of the braking is done by the front wheels so the rear brakes can be smaller. Keep in mind that brakes are unsprung weight, so if you can save a few lbs there, why not?

It is not just BMW that does this as Porsche, Mercedes, and etc work with various tire manufactures in regards to their own preferences for OE tires.
