There are no walls between you....you just basically have someone on your right and your left.....and thats your work space.

I'm interning and I only have to sit at a cubicle when I'm in the office. Most of the time I'm out at clients and they give me an office. Our cubicles are pretty spacious and don't look too bad so I can't complain.

I remember when I had a cube. Sucked royal. So glad when I got the corner office with a door and a couple windows.

I remember when I was 19 and I was an intern in an IT of a major bank. The job was so boring that I stood up one day and survyed the cubicle farm and swore to myself that I would never let that be my long-term position.
I'm in a trading floor set-up now and it's good. I have a wireless headset so if you want to have a private conversation you just step off the desk. Offices are good too. You lose the ability to have free-flow conversations with folks, but you gain the ability to have impromptu conference calls, which I find helpful. Now, if I'm on a conference call, I need to put in an earplug in my free ear because it's so damn loud on the floor. |

There is a reason they call it "work" and pay you to do it.
Ok, could not resist. But here is the thing -- you have to pick your poison. The office thing (and cubes). Irregular hours. Fixed hours. Being outside. Travel. A firm schedule. What some people like other people hate. You have to figure out what you want to deal with. And money tends to come to those who eat some sh*t. But there is more to life than money. [Age 50. Punched a clock, had a cube, had an office, worked a schedule, now I travel for weeks at a time.] |

you're not supposed to loathe what you do for a living.

Manage to share a corner office with two guys who have worked there for 20+ years. Just wrapping up my first year with the company and I'm 23. Boss pulled me aside and said reason I am in there instead of about 50 other people much more qualified is that he believes I am the future of the branch. I still don't understand, but whatever, I have a nice view.
