It's only because they have Apple fanboys that will buy iAnything.

I had original launch 3.0 firmware on my 32gb 3gs jailbroken etc etc about 28gb worth of stuff on it. Upgraded to 4.0 and its a lot smoother. I like it, not spectacular, the fast app switching is nearly worthless but the folders and email is nice... Other small improvements as well. I just want to put android on my phone, thats all!

Fast app switching only works with apps that have been updated to support it. And it works amazingly well for games that usually take 10-15 seconds to load up every time you launch them. Now they launch instantly and you can just play where you left off.

After using it for a little while, I've also noticed the increased lag times on my 3G.

the date format is different
is there anywhere we can change it?

it used to be
"Wednesday June 23rd"

now its

After a couple days with the update I've noticed somethings:

If pandora is playing and I get a text the volume will mute itself and play the text chime. A few seconds later the volume will mute again for no reason, like the phone has a hiccup.

I have my phone synced to my car via bluetooth. After the update I noticed there is a considerable lag between when I first get an incoming call and when my car picks it up. Before it was pretty instantaneous.

These aren't big faults, just annoying ones.

So MMS, Multi tasking, and a camera flash is not good for mobile platforms?? How come they have it now? I wasn't talking about the phone running flash. What I meant to say is they like releasing things one at a time to basicaly keep people interested in the Iphone and keep the hype up so people are always buying the iphone. They could have put MMS, Multi tasking etc.. in the first iphone.

Just a little extra tidbit. Pay attention to the apps running in the backgroud. Had trapster running on mine in the background which was killing my battery life. You could notice the little compass arrow near the battery icon. You have to open the MMS function and close it from there. This would probably pertain to any app that uses GPS.

Yea and release the phone 1-2 years later? The thing you don't realize is Apple doesn't just add features without thinking about them. They are meticulous about getting things right. I have no idea why they didn't add MMS the first round. But multi-tasking is obvious. Same with copy and paste. They wanted to get it right before adding those features. As far as hardware additions, I'm guessing it really is a matter of a few things. There's cost, design (these devices are tightly packed), and software to support the feature. You fail to realize Apple doesn't just make hardware. They make both the hardware AND the software for their products and make sure they work seamlessly together.

A clear example between Apple and the other manufacturers is comparing the front facing camera of the iPhone 4 and the HTC Evo. The iphone's "face time" just works. With the HTC Evo, the hardware is there, but there's no software. The user has to download a 3rd party app, create an account for that service, and even then the features is really hit or miss (based on many reviews).

I disagree, I still have the orig. iPhone (for a couple more hours anyway) and the processor is not up to the task of multi-tasking and some of the larger apps are slow to launch etc

Updated to iOS4 on my 3GS 32GB, and while I like some of the features, it seems to have messed up my email. I turn "Push" off because it doesn't work for crap, and just have it Fetch every 15 minutes.

The problem is, it DOESN'T fetch every 15 minutes like it is supposed to! It only checks for mail when I launch the app and select any of the inbox options. Only then does it check for mail. If I'm on the "Mailboxes" screen and press the "refresh" icon in the lower left, it doesn't do anything. As a matter of fact, the refresh button doesn't work at all, on any email screen. WTF?

My problem with the email after ios4 comes from the fact that it keeps pulling emails from my accounts even after i have read them and deleted them. They keep coing back until i delete them from the mailbox on the actual email account. Prior to the ios4 update all emails that i read and deleted never came back

Do you have one of the "delete from server" options selected under the "Advanced" tab from "Settings > Mail > Accounts"? Mine defaulted to "Never." Maybe you had changed that previously to delete the emails from the server, and now that setting is back to "Never."

Either way, I'm guessing iOS4.1 will be out very shortly with some bug fixes. Seems like Apple rushed a little too much on getting out iOS4 and iPhone4.....

No, i dont want it to delete it from my actual email account but i find it odd that the phone doesnt recognize that i have read it and deleted it already. It keeps bringing them back for me to re-delete which never happened back when i was using 3.1.2

My gf updated her 3G iPhone to 4.0. Her backup/restore doesn't do its job. After a restore, most of her data is still missing, such as contacts and text messages. Anyone else have that problem? Or have a solution? I haven't been able to find a solution.

I used the Restore feature in iTunes on my 3g after the 4.0 install and it has removed the lag noticed after upgrading to 4.0. It is a noticeable difference.

I think its pretty sweet for my 3GS. There seems to be a few glitches with texting and after a message is sent the screen scrolls up and down.

Ah, got it. It keeps downloading the same messages from the email server, even if it has downloaded it before, been read and deleted. Mine doesn't do that, thankfully.

It seems the problems with iOS4 are varied, which is going to make it harder for Apple to troubleshoot the code and fix it.
