As someone who "worked their ass off" in their early 20s to drive a cool new car, I can relate. Although I wasn't crashing into other vehicles and at the time, and my idea of a cool new car was a 2003 Honda accord. It had vtec yo.

Obviously the OP fucked up, he's not fixing that damage on his own, and it wasn't the tires. Yes, the insurance company will likely cancel his policy and legal side of things won't be a fun experience.

He most definitely feels like shit about the situation and hopefully, this will be a learning experience.

I'm not even going to get into the reckless driving ticket, if you can't get that off your record I don't even want to think of your possibilities. You are basically the worst case for a 23-year-old now when it comes to automobile insurance. Insurance company rates have been rising drastically, and they're looking for any reason to get rid of high risk drivers such as yourself.

I would fix the car, sell it, then start looking for something about 1/5th the cost. I don't even think you'd be insurable at this point on an M4, and if so, you're going to be way over $1k a month which is completely bat-shit crazy.

You're young, you need to change your habits. It's fortunate nobody was hurt (I'm assuming nobody was) in this incident. Downgrade the car and start investing that money on your future.

Also, one point you will want to consider. You shouldn't have posted this. Insurance companies are not stupid, and it's very possible they will be able to find this thread if they look hard enough.

This.

Also, since there's a 3rd party involved, the insurer will find out regardless of what happens.

There’s a saying, An accident is always someone’s fault, in this instance you’ve admitted being the cause, trying to beat the lights. Rather than the self pity, what about the other, road abiding citizen? Wonder if they’re on a forum complaing about the ‘boy racer’ crashing in to them and how should they fix their car.

Everyone wants the nicest, fastest cars even if their performance outways our abilities, which I’m sure is the case in 99% of the worlds population! But you need to know where that line in the sand is….

That why the OP need to get a car that is 1/5 price of M4 car. 1/5 of 500 horse is 100 horse. Then everything will be fine

I'd buy an old sleeper, late 90's and spend all that insurance monies ($750 per month) on goodies!

Inexperience is the problem here, yes you can have toys, but what you haven't learned yet and are just being exposed to now is that of you're gonna play, you gotta PAY! There's no free rides! And having power under the hood doesn't make you a good driver!

Anyways, fix it yourself, if there's no bodily injury and it's only material ... You "could" pay out of pocket even with the other person you're responsible to. You can eat it all! Used to be a time that you didn't have to carry insurance if you could validate a certain net worth ... But those days are long gone! Lol, now even your credit rating factors in to risk assessment...

Anyways... Good Luck!

You pay $9K a year in insurance. I have to assume your car payment is over $1K.

If you can even get insurance assume it will double.

Besides the obvious body work, you will need to check suspension on that corner. that can add some cost.

I would be interested in seeing pictures of what is going on behind the fender. Anything tweaked around the door hinges?

Car payment is well below 1k. Door on passenger side does close but it takes effort, this is just do to the dent being right in the fender/door area.

Until this day, the longest walk I've ever taken was only 15 ft. It was from my bedroom to father's den. Justice was swift, and I never made the same mistake twice. He was a fair man. I miss him dearly.

Take accountability, and do what is right. You are still young. There will be more difficult challenges ahead of you. Keep driving forward.

When I was young I certainly wanted a fast fancy car, but looking back it was definitely a good thing that that isn't what I had because I did some dumb things in it.

Just curious - what kind of work are you doing at 23 to afford say an effective $1500 car payment per month? (depending on how "way below" $1k your car payment is) Plus whatever your other bills are. I have the same work hard for what I want theory, but that kind of money wasn't an option for me at 23.

I work in a underground gold mine doing electrical/instrumentation. The car is expensive, but it’s my main hobby and I make enough to justify it because it truly is my source of fun. Currently I haven’t worked in 2 months, I probably have 2 more before I’m signed off to go back.

4 months is a long time with no income if you have expensive habits.

You do not know why that door is not closing until you take the body panels off. Looking at that one picture, especially looking at the impact near the A pillar, this is likely not an easy or cheap fix. Frame, along with suspension and everything else, will need to be inspected and potentially pulled. Even IF your insurance company liked you, which it appears they don't, that car is potentially totaled just for the hassle.

You want advice? Take this as a learning experience. You got ahead of your skis and now you are paying for it. Sell/total the car and move on. This is going to hurt financially for a long time, and I doubt the judge is going to give pity to a 20 year old recklessly driving a $100k car so your legal issues should be priority over saving the car. There are Plenty of cars available that are cheaper to insure (and fix) that are arguably more fun to drive on the road than a 500hp M car.

This is coming from someone who was young and dumb and stuffed an e36 m3 in his 20s. I rebuilt the car with a salvage title, but it was likely exponentially cheaper than what you are facing.

Hell, spend your savings on a HPDE. Might learn something.

Odds of them totaling this car are damn near zero, but yes sure insurance is going to total it just for the “hassle” …

So you have gotten a quote from the shop the insurance company selected? That should make the decision much easier for you then!

I live in a small town. My insurance company goes through one shop for higher end vehicles. I talked to an employee of the shop and had him asses the damage, which he then said it was definitely not totaled.
