What is “very good?”

That’s a hefty non-refundable. Anything could happen to the car, or you.

My dealer does $2,500 refundable. The big dealer to the north does $1,000 non-refundable.

It's a non-issue because you had no issues. You're undermining what could've gone wrong with your transaction and recommending that anyone do what you did is just irresponsible.

$500 over invoice. Anything could happen, but it's on an Amex, and if the shit really did hit the fan there is recourse. I'm not worried.

who exactly am I recommending it to? I shared my experience, that's all. If something did go wrong, you wouldn't be paying for it, would you? Works for me, I'm happy. If it doesn't work for you, or can't afford the car or whatever, don't do it.

Point is I think it's harder to find a dealer that requires a $5k non-refundable deposit than it is to just find a normal dealer. Most people don't want to deal with the hassle of getting your money back if anything goes wrong.

point is, if its not to your liking, don't do it. It doesn't bother me.

The only document I would sign would be the final sales document displaying the final price including TTL, doc fee, etc. This still says "suggested price". Also does not state any terms, if the deposit is refundable, etc.

Sorry - that document doesn't really protect you. I also don't authorize them to run my credit until I've secured outside financing & ask them to match or beat the terms. There's no reason for them to run your credit when submitting an order.

I would never pay 5k REFUNDABLE deposit—let alone non-refundable lol.

I paid 2k deposit that was refundable all the way up until I was assigned a VIN, and that was the most I was willing to pay.

i signed two key documents outside of doing my DD on financing - first outlined the terms of the refundable deposit, second was purchase order after the car arrived and i had a chance to inspect it. i wasnt really pressured into signing anything else and i probably wouldn't have. YMMV

Just when I finally decided on a car local dealer wants a $10k deposit (didn't ask if refundable or not)
$1000 for M240, $2500 for M2, $10k for individual color...

So close yet so far. $10k sitting doing nothing for me while I can make $2k at least on that over the 28 or so weeks for individual manufacturing.

Do they just not want people to buy cars or what?

jfc I would laugh at someone who told me that and walk out or hang up pretty soon afterwards. You probably have, but call around to other dealers. Every dealer I talked to in CO has the same $1000 deposit for any custom build, regardless of what the final options list looks like. No one even asked to see the build before we agreed on that.

My CO dealer is $2,500 refundable. Most CO dealers are $1,000 NON-refundable. Schomp being the biggest like that.
I don’t do non-refundable anything.

This was yesterday so I haven't gotten to call yet but will be calling some local dealers and a few others that would be easy logistics.

$2,500 non refundable here for me. The higher the deposit is there for a reason. Because they just want to make sure you’re a serious buyer. A lot of people flake out now a days with allocations.

Ordered mine at Inskip BMW in February. They asked for a 1k deposit that was fully refundable. 5k non refundable sounds like a deal breaker to me. I’d take your business elsewhere.
