I did everything over email.

When the car showed up, I just spent 10 minutes signing papers and picking the car up.

I've bought cars out of state before and the dealer has no problem doing Texas sales tax and Texas registration. Drive around with the temp plates until the real ones show up within 60 days.

Massachusetts may be unique in that they specifically don't allow temp plates

I gave the dealership $2,500 for a deposit, then did everything else once the car arrived. I just picked it up on Wednesday 12 January, and am loving it so far, although I've only got a little over 300 miles on her, so am still in "break-in" mode.

Wow, that's a huge deposit. Why did they require such a large deposit? My dealer only asked for $500 refundable.

I had to put down a $3000 non-refundable deposit... Only good thing so far is that they had a very early production allocation.

I did everything by email or phone. $1000 refundable deposit. They called when it was ready, I came in, looked over the car, took it for a short drive, and signed the papers. All in all it wasn't even 2 hours at the dealership.

And what if you wanted to lease with $0 down, or wanted to put less than that down? That just seems odd.

Agreed, I'm disappointed that it seems to be out of the norm compared to other dealers. However, it wasn't much of a factor for me as I don't intend on leasing or putting down less.
