Most of us suspected it would be produced in Mexico. Others hoped that the G87 would be produced in Germany only. The recent announcement simply confirms what many of us suspected.

This plant is BMW’s newest and it is high advanced, this includes the paint shop. They have to ability to change exterior paint colors per car with little to no downtime. There are articles available online regarding the newest paint shop within BMWs factory lineup.

Pretty stoked about the G87 being assembled in Mexico honestly; just means I get my keys sooner

BMW BLOG ~ 2023 BMW M2 will be produced exclusively at San Luis Potosi Plant: https://www.bmwblog.com/2022/04/19/2...-potosi-plant/

One of the most important launches this year – at least for the BMW world – is the all-new 2023 BMW M2 Competition. We’re just months away from first details being released to the public, but some of the tech specs are already out in the open. BMW’s new M2 will launch with an option between a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission. Essentially, the very same options found in the new M3/M4.

In standard form – since Competition, CS or even CSL models will follow – the new M2 will make around 455 horsepower. We expect a similar torque as the standard M4 – 406 lb-ft of torque. These power figures will leave room for additional models above the M2 Competition, such as a new BMW M2 CS and, maybe, the first ever BMW M2 CSL.

Not really news, ynguldyn confirmed it would be produced in SLP last year. Just search the forums, you'll see nothing but chatter of people whining that it wasn't being made in Deutschland.

My main gripe is the inability to do Euro Delivery. Maybe it wouldn't have been possible anyway since the program was shelved, but my dream vacation for years was to pick up my own M car at the BMW Welt and enjoy it in Germany, Switzerland, and other locations.

Unfortunately this dream will be forever left unfulfilled. I think Porsche has a program too, but BMW's seemed so comprehensive and fun.

Hopefully front design is better than 2 series, if not I may keep the camo on after I bring that thing home!

Yep while some will naysay the M car being built in Mexico, I'm personally excited to have my advanced M car built in their newest and most advanced factory.

A huge reason why I'll have a Porsche one day

Hopefully BMW will bring it back in the very near future

Best hurry… Porsche is moving to mild hybird and EVs rather quickly. They and The VW Group appear in a huge rush to kill off ICE. It is already confirmed that the next Boxster and Cayman will be EV.

Sadly, it is not going to happen re Euro Delivery for U.S. customers. You can thank the 385 U.S. BMW Centers for that. They were in favor of ending the program.

BTW, In the event that the Euro delivery program miraculously returned a G87 would not be eligible for it. Only vehicles produced within Germany would be eligible.

While you are correct about the switch for the Cayman/Boxster to EV, Porsche is also working on a biofuel to replace petrol so that the ICE can continue to thrive all over the world. They stated that their 911 doesn't have any plans to phase out the ICE completely.

Well, based on this pic I can absolutely, positively, without a doubt, say that the brakes on this M2 will produce lots of brake dust !

Just confirmation that this is truly a BMW.

Save for a couple exceptions, BMW has repeatedly turned its back on enthusiasts for at least a decade now. They are investing heavily into EVs and CUVs, so stuff like Euro Delivery is last on their list of priorities. And dealerships were more than happy to see the program go too, so we are forced to buy the dull white on black inventory on their lot.

The upcoming 992.2 is going to see mild hybridization and more than likely it will be the Turbo and Turbo S with it trickling down to the other models within the 911 range. An electric 911 has not been completely ruled out either. Porsche Design Chief Believes A Fully Electric 911 Is Achievable: https://www.carscoops.com/2021/10/po...is-achievable/

In regards to Porsche‘s efuel, many of the general public will be able to afford it, it will cost significantly more than what we are currently paying for a top-tier 93 gasoline. It will also be the GT cars that will run on it as well. You will not see a base Carrera or Carrera S running it.

Racing ahead with biofuels – Bentley, BMW, Porsche, others embrace biofuels: https://www.biofuelsdigest.com/bdige...race-biofuels/

Edit: Back to BMW… The next M5 is going to be a hybrid and it is rumored that the G87 will be the last full ICE M car to be produced as well as the last M car available with a manual.

While this is clearly a cost saving move...

I will say, a family member of mine had two Audis... one built in Germany, one built in Mexico... I'll let you take a guess which one was significantly better built and had better integrity.

Hint... it was definitely not the one built in Leipzig.
