Your dealership should be extra thankful. It will sell your order and get an extra $1k (hell, they might even give the buy a discount) and they don't have to worry about having you as a client/customer (even though you could buy every car on their lot for cash, or something like that ).

If our “toxic” comments are the reason you aren’t getting the car then you were never serious about buying it.

If I am you I would call them and ask for the manager so you could get your deposit back. Be nice and diplomatic.

Next time, don’t order a car if you aren’t serious about it.

Yes, can pay cash for every car on the lot, yet the title of the email exchange he had with the dealer was about the BMW interest rate.

The only time to finance is when the rate is low, lower than it is now.

I'm usually pretty understanding about deals like this, but after reading through this thread I'll just say...bu-bye.

Is the guy joking? I am new to the forum, but do people decide to loose a $1,000 deposit because the internet forum wasn't "friendly"? that actually happens?

congrats, first time I've seen where for once the dealer isn't to blame.

I mean, I haven't officially joined the BMW crew yet as I'm still on order +(should I do what he did and strong man my twilight purple build *jkjk*) but dude bragging about his brz and saying he can buy every M car off the lot... it's been said but, straight tool... P.S. I also work in a field where I have people die every week and yes it sucks and therapy may be necessary; but I still control how I present myself in the general public to the best of my ability.

I swap cars frequently. So the brz I might use for a couple months or a couple years. Who knows.
I agree with those who said they should not be expected to hold it for you on a maybe. But I also agree with you that, if they sell it before you get a chance to buy it, they need to give you your money back.

So if you refused the car, they keep the deposit? If yes, then sounds fair that if they sell it before you view it, they refund the deposit.

If the BRZ is your thing, you may not like the M2. Pretty different type of car, just come back to try the M2 when it’s more readily available.

I am on the mk5 Supra forum too and I never saw this level of personal insults and attacks as in this thread.

But more spam for sure.

This thread is pretty funny.

Custom ordering a car that you are not sure you want is pretty weird behavior.

You spec the car, that cost 1k. You're not getting your 1k back.

If you want the car there is a very easy way to ensure you get it, just put another deposit down. Discuss it with the dealer like an adult and stop trying to play games.

The conflict is that i am also trying to become more financially savvy, and lately my significant other, and I have decided to go part time at work (because of the constant high stress) and do more traveling. The M2 has been a dilemma because it’s a relatively big expense with pretty hefty taxes and insurance.

I understand myself and the dealer Have a mutually blasé attitude, but it’s a big purchase and I would’ve expected a little more courtesy out of them since I did have $1000 invested. To at least wait for my long weekend trip to conclude. Sheesh
1. No you didn't prep them that you possibly had a trade-in, you tried to act like a big shot & they called your bluff. They threw your "if I'm not impressed, I'll let you sell it to someone else" back in your face to let you know they can, and will sell the car to whomever they please because they're not impressed by you & your $34k BRZ.

2. "I can buy every M vehicle on their lot cash tomorrow", now the M2 is a relatively big expense with heavy taxes and insurance. And you're complaining about possibly losing $1k.

3. If you expected more courtesy from the dealer, again probably shouldn't have tried to act like the big deal you're not. :

I guarantee if you would've responded with, "hey thanks for the update, because we weren't sure when the car might arrive, I have a trip already booked next week that I can't cancel. I'll be back on Monday and will be able to head right over to take delivery..." they would've said no problem, we'll have everything ready for you.

I've purchased several cars when I was out of town or cars in other states and have had no issues with the dealers holding them, even without a deposit because I engage people professionally. The fact that you can't see that you're the instigator of the issue in your situation, and not the dealer, is telling. So is it that you thought you were going to post your issue on a car forum and not get called out on your nonsense.

This post nailed it, if OP explained to the dealer the trip and being excited to pick up the car as soon as he returned it be a different result.

OP got called out by dealer and forum for how this was handled…..blames dealer and forum, time to reevaluate.
