They would have to be the adaptive shocks based on checking members DRIVES info.

I had some extra time this afternoon at the shop, so i took the car for a drive with one of our other techs. We each took turns laying in the trunk, and I’m sorry to say we’re no closer to an answer.
It’s really hard to tell exactly where it’s coming from. Definitely seems to be from outside/under the car (as opposed to something inside), but it was even hard to tell which side it was coming from. While I originally thought it was the passenger rear, it sounded more like the drivers side when you have your head stuffed in the trunk. I do need to remove everything involved in the RAM delivery stop repair, as whoever did it at the VPC did a shit job. One broken plastic nut on the left trunk liner, and one clip missing. So I’m going to QC their work, but like I said, I don’t think it’s anything inside the car. So I guess that’s about it for now. I’m still planning to disconnect the sway bar links one of these days to see if it’s still there. |

What I’m hearing is directly related to bumps in the road, and is really only noticeable at lower speeds. While I first noticed it as the occasional hollow thump or knock at maybe 25-35 MPH, I’ve found it’s most noticeable at say 10 MPH on surface streets that are well paved, yet bumpy. Yesterday I really noticed this with the seats folded down and my music off. Again, you have to be careful not to confuse any of the exhaust burble sounds for anything abnormal. |

Now I need to go look for it. Left rear cubby?
Update: my tow hook is in my mobility kit, which is secured with Velcro in the right cubby area. Not my noise, unfortunately. Last edited by BMWM.D.; 03-05-2022 at 11:37 PM.. |

A little update on this:
Yesterday I did the QC1/PDI on another M240i. This car makes the same noises as my car. Up until this point, my car was the only M240i we’d received, so I never had a chance to drive another one. So at this point I’m calling this “normal”. For the record, I really don’t think it’s normal or an acceptable noise in a new BMW, but there likely isn’t anything that can be done about it unless BMW engineering acknowledges a problem and related fix. |

Thanks for your follow-up! I can also confirm that I had an opportunity to ride in another one (not mine) and heard the same sound. |

Probably a lot of work, disconnect speakers / remove fuse? To rule out 'active sound'

I still have not heard this noise, car is smooth and quiet over varying road surfaces & speeds. I'll ditch my music for a while and see if I can reproduce it, it's sounding like a pretty common issue.

This also reads as if its the active sound design tbh. I've heard many "thump" like noises under shift. They come from the rear speakers to mock exhaust pops and burbles. Sometimes its just a single thump.
Otherwise maybe I'm not hearing the same thing others here are. |
