Now I'm making 780 at the tire and xDrive would be incredible at this power level.

I just want to know what I'm in for. The most concerning to me is the wiring diagrams that were partially shown during the video. Do you guys have plans to offer a plug and play wiring kit for this swap going forward?

Just want to thank you guys for doing this. Really excited to see the results.
Hey! We do not know an accurate answer of how much this build will cost us when finished, hopefully if it turns out easier than expected then maybe we will offer the conversion to the public, but definitely won't be cheap...

Thanks for the support!

This is very impressive. The balls and wallet to take on such a project...

I would just have tuned a G80 xdrive...but I love the bunkers aspect of such a project.

For those of you who are unaware, we’ve teamed up with Tom Wrigley Performance to turn our Papaya Orange BMW G87 M2 into a 1400 whp+ xDrive-converted monster to take to Texas 2K25 and be competitive amongst some of the fastest BMWs in the world. There’s a lot of work to be done between now and next April including a complete OEM xDrive swap, complete engine & gearbox build with our single-turbo kit and potentially even some custom bodywork and interior modifications.

This week, the talented technicians at Tom Wrigley Performance remove the engine and drivetrain so we can assess exactly what parts will be needed and what alterations we need to make to convert the G87 M2 to xDrive.

The way I just said “removed the engine and drivetrain” made it sound like a pretty simple task. It’s a very systemised and routine job for the guys at Tom Wrigley Performance. However, it's no easy feat for the average mechanic who doesn’t have years of BMW main dealer knowledge and experience.

WHY XDRIVE SWAP THE M2?

But, before we get into the teardown, you may be wondering why we are xDrive-swapping an M2 in the first place. Besides, BMW made the G87 to be the smaller, more nimble and engaging driver’s car. Isn’t rear wheel drive the perfect setup?

The answer, simply, is traction. If we’re aiming to make this one of the fastest BMWs in the world with upwards of 1400+ bhp, a rear wheel drive layout just couldn’t transfer [...]
Wow! That’s going to be an amazing car! And finally!!! an AWD M2! The way it should’ve been from the get-go! Good job guys 👍🏻

BMW take notes!

If this conversion costs less than ~$40-50K with labour, mechanical parts, wiring sensors, unlock, coding/tuning I’ll eat my hat. (Just the Xdrive conversion alone, not the other mods they’re talking about)

It’s a ridiculously expensive proposition but a cool project.

If the general public were to hire the same technicians, I would expect it to be more than that. In no way wirth the money. I would expect for BMW to replace an xdrive in the not too distant future.

Hell, may be cheaper (and easier?) to start with a wrecked G82 M4 xdrive and work off that.

Adventure to say they’re probably in the ballpark of over 100K so far.

It's wallet part which is inspiring and terrifying at the same.

Any insights what the project budget is?

There will always be someone faster.

But a 6MT M2 Xdrive would be leaps and bounds more special. But I get it. I appreciate the build and will watch the videos.

6MT is cool, as is the DCT, but are there any Bimmers with x-drive and a manual? I thought they were all autos.

Is the ZF8 a better transmission than the DCT the F87s used? It’s gotta be alright since it’s in everything.

Cool project. I’m curious about the coding and TC with the new stuff. Good luck.

I think the 335, 435, 340 and 440 xis were available with manual transmission

I think if you could do a flange adapter so you can use your existing RWD gearbox that would bring costs down significantly from a retail perspective. A lot of people aren’t going to buy m4 donor cars etc.
With the front wheel hubs, again would be good if someone could tool a version that builds in negative camber like the csl hubs (assume they won’t work on this project?); as some people will prefer arms with rubber bushings rather than adjustable arms with harder bushing and harsher rides etc.

I wanted to do a build like this myself, but waiting for BMW to release the xDrive variant. You can't tell me this isn't a modern day GTR.

What turbos are you planning on running? A pair of G42-900s would be my choice, but curious to see what you're gonna run.

What ECU configuration?

Hey! The platform is great to work on, very powerful cars straight out of the box. To be honest, at the moment we do not even know what setup will feature the car. As for now the plan is to successfully fit the xDrive system, after that is complete we will start working on the power gains.
