In M1 mode, the exhaust note is noticeably louder (from outside the car). When the centre console exhaust button is deactivated in M1, the exhaust note from inside and outside the car goes quieter. this is at idle. so in my case, it makes a difference coding out ASD cos i may want the exhaust flaps open but not the synthetic piped noise. i coded out ASD on my previous Supra as well, but the tyre noise was worse than the piped sound and i turned ASD back on... |

It does make me want a midpipe/resonator delete/secondary cat back but I already wanted that. Anyway, best thing I have coded in/out, but I have not done adaptive headlights yet. |

I think it's a one time charge but only for 1 vehicle. If you get rid of your car, and you get another BMW later, you gotta buy it again to code the new car

finally got around to coding the car. ASD for the focus but ended doing a couple other options including the Bowers sound profile.
with ASD off the car is definitely much quieter inside the cabin. i do have TFL catback exhaust and with ASD on it was pretty loud. Now i can hear the real tone of the exhaust. paid 50 bucks for the app and already had the cable. well worth it |

Recently upgrade the sound system and the ASD cabin sound makes me feel like I am driving with straight through exhaust.
Been reading thread about ASD. May I know after coding ASD off, does the M sound button still have light when press on it or it will turn dead? If it still works, can the m sound button still control the exhaust valve but yet no fake cabin sound? In the m1 and m2 configuaration menu, there is an option for the m sound. Does it mean that once asd is coded off, that option in m menu is also dead no difference? Many thanks. |

Coding can be done over bluetooth if you choose to purchase one of the bluetooth-enabled OBDII dongles. This one is recommended by Bimmercode.

I finally got around to coding some things and thought I’d look at ASD. On the first screen, Bimmercode reported that ASD was defaulted to (or set?) “Not Active.” I thought that was odd, so I switched to Expert and noted the coding for each of the relevant ASD settings—and all were “Active” save “ASD_Signal_Cabrioroof” (I have no idea what that does but assume it has something to do with convertibles). Was my ASD, therefore, already “not active”…IDK.
For that sake of experimenting, I set all the relevant ASD settings in Expert mode to “Not Active,” exported my ASD Activation file (FSC_8E89874_02B40002.FSC—Bimmercode indicated that failure to do so would prevent me from reversing any changes), and set Activation Code to “Deactivate.” All to no avail. To me, there was no audibly discernable difference in “fake” or augmented sound and what I perceived as authentic engine and exhaust sounds. Unless the setting on the initial screen was not reporting correctly, I assume that ASD was (somehow), therefore, already “Not Active” (as the initial screen indicated). So, of course, the car would sound the same to me after I seemingly disabled it. In any event, I will now have to return at some point to code ASD to “Active” and, I guess, import my activation file to see if I can turn ASD on (no double entendre intended). I kinda wish no one had ever implemented this tech in the first place. * Update: After reactivating ASD, I can make out a difference in audio volume when using the sound control button --which formally had no effect on the sound, fake/augmented or otherwise. However, now that I know ASD is active and can discern an audial difference, I can't say I hear what all the fuss is about or care. Moving on. Last edited by mks; 12-25-2024 at 06:42 AM.. Asking for a point of clarity. Installed the SST valve controller today and will be installing mid pipe next week.
Reason for the SST was to not muddy the audio with exhaust noises through the speakers. Question, are all the pops and bangs coming through the speakers with the M2? Coding out ASD is the same as leaving the “exhaust button” off? No more pops and bangs or something different? Thanks. |
